Holy shit. It's just moisture accumulating at the coolest spot in the engine... Let me get my tin foil hat since over priced cult of amsoil is the savior of all engine problems that aren't really problems...

I think our resident tribologist is trying to pull some science here but the mung in the tacoma
cap will pass the bromine test as 'not an unsaturated hydrocarbon'. it is simply water drops mixed with
engine oil vapors condensed up in the neck of the filler, the filler which remains cooler than on other
engines because it sticks way out there. and this happens on any oil you use, regular or full or semi-synthetic.

it won't form if you only drive 1 hour trips all the time. it does form when you drive 4 miles to work
and cold soak, and 4 miles back home and cold soak.

How does the oil you use determine if you'll get condensation or not? I've got that with both M1 and Amsoil. It's the short tripsin cold weather that does it. Most "synthetics" aren't full synthetics. That said M1 is just fine.

That gooey stuff is a sign your Tacoma wants you to take her out for a nice long trip and have some FUN!

@Tacotaco77 -- First off, you totally stole my name convention. I'm onto you.

    Second, please ignore our shenanigans.

Your truck is fine. Maybe taking your Taco out for a longer drive when you get a chance may help.

Nothing to do with your oil. Please ignore those morons.

    Enjoy your truck! :cookiemonster:

I really wish I could drive it more. I switched to M1 FS because of all reviews I read here. Just want to be sure I'm doing everything correctly. I do my own oil changes/ work on my truck but it's good to ask questions.

Ok I understand that obviously some condensation is gonna get in here since its the coolest part the oil can go really, but isn't this a bit excessive...? Castrol edge synthetic 5w30, only started having short trips last week (work is 5km away) when i finished school for the year(300km away...)

Is this something to be concerned about? Or just keep :mudding:

Looks normal to me, mine does the same thing, I work 1 mile from my house. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. That's about every 6-7 months for me.

OP - The only thing you need to take away from this is to drive longer when you drive. Not just getting the temperature gauge up to normal, but take it out on the highway and give 'er a good flogging once in a while. Moisture in the crankcase + engine oil does not make a good combination. Most oils can survive it since they have good additive packages, but don't push it.

Everyone else - Go read www.bobistheoilguy.com before you spout off more misinformation about oils.
