Small car dealers always feel kinda shady to me.

Honestly, the gentleman with the 04' really seems like an honest guy. He only deals in Tacoma 4x4's. Real knowledgable about Toyotas and an older guy who is retired. Said that the truck im interested in, his wife drove for a bit back and forth to work. He charges no fees and has temp. Dealer tags that he issues, no charge. He did say he's firm at 9,950, but I feel like I can get him on down. Especially if I tell him I can get in my wife's car and be there by noon.

I would go with #2. One owner and bucket seats are a plus and I would be concerned about what's underneath the undercoating on #1. Honestly though, they both seem over priced. I know you want a single cab but the link below looks to be a nice truck at a good price.

Yeah honestly that was a steal. It's just gonna be next weekend before I can make a move. As much as I'm against Xtracab 4 bangers, I would have compromised with myself on that one

Sounds like an honest guy. I like the idea that he deals only in Toyota 4x4's, he probably knows way more about them than most every Toyota lot salesman.

Unfortunately, out here in Los Angeles, 90% of small car dealerships "mom n pop" lots, are flat out scam artists (not to say the big corporate ones aren't either, but at least they try and follow the rules). That or what they're selling you is absolute crap. I've had a couple of TERRIBLE experiences car shopping when I was a young and naive 18-19 year old buying off those lots, never again. One was a P.O.S Dodge Dakota that had every electrical problem imaginable starting 3 days after I got it home, shot brake system and went through batteries like candy. I was so happy to get rid of that truck, but I was paying it off along with my next one for a long time.

Dont buy either. Youd be over paying for sure. I live in NC and can find one of those truck here for 6k on the high side. I paid 6k for my 6cyl SR5 EXT cab with 130k on the clock. Reg cab 4 bangers are not worth that much. Also if i were tou id look for a 97 and less bc you an scoop one up with the V6 in the reg cab. I know you say you wont need a V6 but it helps when your hitting mountain roads on your way to go places to wheel or camp

I'd def recommend the v6 as well, it'd be a lot more fun with the stick shift

My experience is be patient and get EXACTLY the truck you want. I almost compromised myself a few times, but held strong. I ended up getting my 99 V6 4wd with a supercharger for 8 cash that is minty. Also, CA only so the underside is practically rust free. I agree with others that the price on those two trucks feels a bit high.

Tell me more about these pre-97' single can V6's. I found one I think, on Autotrader. Sometimes, though the ads are incorrect, and this dealer has no pics under the hood.

I believe it's definitely a v6! 150k miles! I think I found it. I can do a v6 in a single cab. Just like that super clean Xtracab 4 banger someone else posted, I could manage that compromise (4 cylinder in an xtracab). I can definitely compromise for a manual v6 single cab! EPA says 15/18 mpg. I know the 2nd gen v6 manual got doodoo for fuel mileage. Anyone got anything on these SC V6 5 speeds (4wd as well)? If you drive them right, can you get better mileage?
