I would never buy from a salesman that wouldn't let me drive the vehicle around on my own.

Lots of good stuff in this thread. I appreciate the OP's post as, aside from the size thing, I'm struggling with the realities of the truck's performance relative to my uninformed expectations, and the MPGs compared to its rating and (so many folks on here that seem to be greatly exceeding) my 17.7 average over 2600 miles so far.)

I don't trade vehicles regularly and have never owned a truck as a daily driver or primary vehicle. I've found that the JBL stereo up around volume of 50 or so helps to drown out the incessant shifting while trying to run 80 or so on the interstate. To its credit, the transmission is pretty smooth which helps as well. Overall, and this isn't of any objective value to anyone else here, this is certainly the nicest all-around vehicle I've ever owned.

I've not yet called Toyota about the apparently normal behavior (I'm learning, thanks to TW members input, like the OPs), as I'm not really sure what I'd ask them to do about it.

Thanks. I'm trying to lower my monthly nut but a Tacoma will save me 140-160/month. My gas runs 300/month as I drive so much. Issue for me is that I'm wanting something smaller but not sure if I can make the trade off with the amenities. In short, I wish I would have been able to be shopping for a new vehicle THIS year rather than last year. Wish the Tacoma came in a diesel version that would get 28mpg. Would make the decision much easier.

I drive to Savannah from Atlanta for work every week. 250 one way. I get about 18.3 average on the F150. Trade off is I'm up high (level kit). I'm told I can get better mileage if I get a tune. The eco is tuned to run very, very rich. I have the extended 6/125k warranty. Just doing the metrics.

I have the option to fly every week but the truck gives me flexibility. Been gone 45 out of 52 weeks.

I can totally identify with your friend from Missouri! I traded a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with the dealer installed 6" lift complete with the "huge" Mickey Thompson tires! These goodies and a few others were all apart of the Z-92 pkg from American Luxury Coach.

The truck was a "real looker" and stood out wherever I drove it, especially since it was white diamond. It looked the part of as a straight up man truck! Its only downfall was that it was a biotch getting in, getting out of and parking! Man, I splipped getting out that truck one too many times and I'm average height of about 5'11"!

I just bought the GMC last September on my birthday nonetheless and decided to traded it on something smaller. I took a beating on the trade too!!! Anyway, unlike the OP, for me the Tacoma is perfect. As far as all the complaints about the newly designed truck, well I've been there before! I owned a 2000 Tundra Limited 4x4 that had just come out 8 months prior. Man the members on the newly formed Tundrasolutions forum complained, some valid, about every damn thing "they" thought was wrong. You would have thought the Tundra was the biggest piece of shit since the AMC Gremlin!. My truck aside from the brake TSB was damn near flawless for 15 years. I expect the 2016 Tacoma will do the same BUT I do read all the complaints and take those said complaints under advisement. As with most posts, complaints fall under 2 categories...fact based or personal opinion...you just have to know the difference!

Totally see your dilemma, $600 is a lot to pay every month plus with all the necessary driving you do.

I get by fine with my 4 banger single cab but I don't have kids. Does what I need it to do andi can get 22-23 city in the warmer months.

Fair enough, good read & the F150 has nothing to prove, they've been a staple for years , great trucks...

Toyotas don't please or suit everybody and I have no problem with that.

Enjoy your new truck OP, no hate here.

Agreed, I have a big white beast. Why, because I wanted it, and it is currently under repair.

I can't imagine a dealership giving these several hour or 24 hour test drives like some are suggesting. At that point, when you returned it, it's not even a new truck anymore. I would never buy a vehicle as "new" if it had more than like 10-15 miles on it. It's like buying a a "new" pair of hiking boots that someone just took one one hike. They aren't new any more.

I have 27k. Just got back from second dealer (read: it ain't happening'). Gave me 38k for a loaded Platinum. A joke, they'd put it on the market for 47-48 and sell it quick. Looks like I'm going to drive this thing into the ground, or at least through the summer. With trips to Florida, South Carolina and weekly commutes I'll put 10k on it by August. Worse problems to have. Pretty sure I"ve settled on a White, 4x4 Off road when the time comes.

The fact that your butt-hurt over my comments proves they went over your head..... I commend the Tacoma for being a great truck. If yours has none of the issues I mentioned? AWESOME! Go enjoy it! I tried it, loved a lot of things about it, some not so much. So I traded it. Don't lose sleep over what I did. Get on with your life....

I have been working at Ford dealers for many years and have not bought a new truck since 1997. I am now self employed and can drive whatever I want. I have always loved the Toyota trucks. I got this 'new truck fever' when the 2016 Tacoma ads hit TV this past winter. Thought it looked bad-ass! Which it does, for sure. Loved it for the first few weeks, but after a while issues begin to get noticed after the 'new wore off'. I think the Tacoma is a great truck in many respects. But, I think that if several issues were addressed, it would be an awesome truck!
