Started with an all chrome grill, kept the horizontal bars and center badge chrome, then dipped the grate-looking parts black. Got the idea from another poster earlier in this thread.image.jpg

I did it on the truck so I taped the bezel, horizontal bars, and badge. Then I surrounded the entire front with paper, and put paper between the grill and radiator. When it finished drying, I ran a razor blade along the border of all the tape so the plastidip would leave a crisp line.

Just a few dips so far - I plan on getting to the wheels and some stripes and hood work.... hoping the vision in my head is how it'll end up. If not, I'll just peel it off anyway.

Maybe i'm wrong but wouldn't it be easier to just remove to inside grill part you plasti dipped and do it off the truck ? Seems it would be easier than taping all that off ... none the less it looks GREAT !!!

Yes, yes it would. Unfortunately even after taking out all the pull tabs and screws, I couldn't get the grill to come out. I'm a bit paranoid about breaking things so I just decided to do it the hard way.

    Derped.

Looks great from far. Really tough to get all the tape off while the last coat was still "wet".

Just noticed in the 2016 Tacoma e-brochure they show trucks that looked like the chrome grill was derped! The fine print says "prototype shown, production model may vary."

Guess the good looking grill didn't make the cut. Shoulda stuck with the prototype.

I read somewhere where it was best to let the final coat dry at least 30-min before removing tape and starting to peel dip ... can people chime in and let me know what way you've found best
    Thanks !

I'd also like to hear the best method for pulling a clean line. After working with this product once my best guess is as soon as you spray the last coat pull the tape.

Pulled the sr5 badges off and derped the yota emblems. My grille isn't completely chrome so no need to do it

Just finished my 8th and final coat. Right about or little over a half a can. Can't wait to put it back together.
Toyota definitely missed the boat on this one.
