If you were to buy a double cab Toyota Tacoma would get the short bed or the long bed and why? I have an access cab now and need a double cab. Thanks for any input on this.

    For look or for usefulness?
IMO, the short beds look way better, but the long beds are more useful for pretty much everything.

I would want the auto with the SR5 package or the TRD Offroad depending what I can find.

The SR5 you can get in either bed length , the TRD Offroad only comes in a short bed in the 2nd gen DC's

Long bed, I honestly don't understand why people get short beds. They're just not practical!

Wanted a long bed but ended up with another short bed (my 3rd). For the extra foot of space you're not really gaining much. A 2 x 4 is still going to stick out anyways. Longbeds do look better when lifted over 3 inches though.

Always found it funny when I see short bed guys hauling stuff around and they need to keep the tailgate down because of their 5ft bed.

It's a pickup truck ,go LB or go home.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
They are fine for carrying mulch, potting soil, a flat of begonias and even bicycles. :D

    Long Bed.

I wouldn't consider a short bed. No point in having a truck at that point. My Taco is my second truck and I still wouldn't get a short bed lol.

I have a short bed, and a tool box. If I need to carry anything that doesn't fit I just use a trailer. Bed space isn't a huge concern for me.

i have a short bed...i like the look of it, but i really wish i had a long bed instead. short bed isn't very useful when you need to haul things.

I regularly use my short bed to haul mulch, top soil, trees/shrubs, bicycles, plywood, drywall, and lumber. I've never hauled something that made me wish I had a long bed. Maybe if I hauled motorcycles, was a contractor, or used my bed as a sleeping area, I would regret having a short bed.

The long bed is just an extra foot (~3sqft?) and zero extra payload or towing capacity. I'm sure it comes in handy for some people, but it hardly constitutes whether or not the truck is useful or practical.

Long bed. The extra foot really does make a difference, especially when hauling a motorcycle. It also gives you more room if you have a truck box. My neighbor that lives across the street has a double cab SR5 short bed and says he wishes he would have gone with the long bed... side note, there are maybe 30 houses in my neighborhood and 7 of them have Tacomas (six 2nd gen and one 1st gen).

I have the short bed and have no problems. The extra foot of space doesnt make or break it in my opinion. If you are constantly hauling things around that are exactly 6', well ok then. However, most things i carry that are too long for my bed would also be too long for a 6' bed. So in the end, my truck is slightly more maneuverable in cities and can also fit in my garage by 6".

Long bed for me. Harder to find sometimes. No off road TRD but Sport and SR5 mostly suits most peoples needs anyway. Just cannot haul all the stuff I need to keep on hand at time in the short bed. I have a hard Tonneau cover to keep all that stuff dry and safe. Tools, spare trailer tires, equipment etc. And if Im heading to the beach or a trip I can haul all my specialty needs like fishing poles, crab traps coolers luggage etc in the dry. It just won't all fit in the short bed. Just works better for me to use a long bed. I need that extra room.
