I got this aftermarket fog light kit a while back. Installed it and it's cool, it actually works great, but my main gripe atm about it is the switch's illumination. Its on all the time, I only want it to turn on when I switch the fogs on. Does anyone know how to wire it up to make it only light up when I turn my fog lights on?

The switch illumination is always on or indicator for them being on is always on or both?

the illumination is always on. I don't think it turns on when I hit the switch (the fog lights do work and turn on/off). sometimes when I touch the button, it feels a little hot. but it hasn't gotten to the point where it's melting or anything.

Mostly, I would throw that switch in the garbage and get the oem Tacoma one or get an FJ one that has switch illumination and indicator for when the fogs are on. Mine are Tacoma oems and they light up with parking and headlights.

If I were to use an FJ switch, is there a wiring diagram that goes along to show where the additional wires go? I am assuming some get spliced together to get the functionality of the on/off indication.

I used oem with other wiring harnesses. Bought the pigtails for the switch and spliced them into harness. They do not activate the dash light for fogs due to not having oem wiring for those. The indicator light on the FJ switch replaces that. I'm sure the are wiring diagrams to tell you which one is which on the switch. Used one to wire mine up.

Connect the wire that lights up the switch to the wire that turns on the fog lights from the switch.

The wire that lights up the switch is connected to dash lighting. Unless you have the FJ switch or similar one, that's all the oem Tacoma switches do other than lighting up the green light on instrument panel (if you have oem wiring in place) If you use other harness then it won't light the dash light. The FJ switch gives that indicator back on the switch that isn't lit on gauge panel when doing that.

I bought the pricey pigtails and oem switch connector from the dealership just to be able to jam the things in the connector, plug it into switch and splice it into the aftermarket harness. The cheaper and time consuming way would be find an FJ in junkyard and cut the connector with pigtails off it or go to electrical supply place and see whatcha can find there. I opted for the for sure thing on this just to get it done - more money and less searching.

I ordered the same kit that you did from Amazon but it was a third party out of Ca that I got the kit from. I did not use the wiring harness nor the switch that was supplied with the kit. I simply removed from OEM fog lights from my 05 Tacoma and installed the new yellow lenses lights and they work great. I have had a set of Off Road Lights on my "bush bar" for sometime and used a simple off/on toggle switch for them. The problem was the location of the toggle switch. I thought I would seize the opportunity to install this look alike OEM switch. The wiring coming from my Off Road Lights is red (power source) black (ground) and white (accessory). The wiring coming from this aftermarket OEM look alike switch is red (again power source), black (ground) and yellow (accessory perhaps), I not sure. So I wired red to red, black to black and yellow to white). The lights worked but the switch was illuminating all the time. I then wired black to yellow and white to black and started popping 15 amp fuses. Long story short, I went back to my old toggle switch. I think the OEM switch has 4 spade connectors and that is the problem that made it incompatible with my Off Road Lights.

Not sure if OP already resolved this issue, but I just did this today. I also have the same Amazon fog light kit that it looks like OP purchased. I remember seeing a how-to by someone somewhere online but could not for the life of me find it today. It is pretty simple and can be done in less than 15 minutes. If you take the switch out of the dash you can disassemble it into 4 pieces (no screws, you just pull it apart in the right sequence). Once you have the circuit board by itself you will see two bulbs, one on either side of the push button. I simply cut the two wires to the bulb on the LEFT, and removed it. That's it. Now the switch is dark until you turn on the fogs.

So could you have left the bulb and wired it to parking lights where it'd be lit with dash and then lit more by the 2nd bulb when you turn on the fogs? I have the opposite issue....oem switch lights with parking/head lights but there is no indicator light when the fogs are actually on.....but I can live with it....them. I have 2 sets of lights hooked to 2 oem switches.
