265 is the width. 75 is the percent of the width that is the height of the sidewall of the tire.

Percent ratio of the sidewall to width. 75% has more sidewall height than a 60% for example.

    so a 75 would be taller than a 65 because it's a higher percent?

Yep. I went from 245/75/R16 to 265/65/R18 with keeping the same overall diameter. The 18 is a bigger wheel, so there is 10% less sidewall to compensate.

265/75/17 will not fit our trucks, 70 will.

Never heard of a 265/75/17, but 265/70/17 is a common size and almost identical in overall size to a 265/75/16. Same overall height, the 265/70/17 is just a hair wider.

Pep boys says they have them in stock. But I have yet to speak with anyone who has physically seen them in that size.
Just spoke with cooper on the phone. They do NOT manufacture this size in any tire!
Must be a misprint from pep boys (though they swear they have them available). Sorry for posting a bum link in my previous post

OK , but FYI , in a similar situation I purchased my 275/70/17 Hankook ATm's because they were advertised online as a C load tire and when they arrived they were E load and an email to Hankook confirmed that they had never been offered in a C load and that the online info and advertising was wrong

Edit : I see you got that figured out while I was typing up my post lol
