Transmission 2016-2023- 6 SPEED AUTOMATICS COULD BE LOW ON FLUID DIRECTLY FROM FACTORY

I did my tranny today, it was 3/4 quart low. I checked it at 1000 miles. What type of damage if any is possible? I checked the u-bolts all were good, greased the zerks to did take about 5 pumps each, but it did have grease in them. Different color grease than mine came out. Went ahead and changed oil to Mobil 1 0w20 and started to run Lucas fuel treatment. I hope the transmission is OK I really like the truck. I do miss the my built 2013.

 

I believe the grease you saw in the U joints is the packing Greece when they build it

I did not notice any symptoms when mine was low. I thought it shifts better after adding 3/4 qt but the wife thinks it is a placebo affect she didn't notice anything different. If no symptoms does that mean no damage?

 

I would venture to say, there probably isn't any damage even if you were showing symptoms unless if you had really harsh things going on like massive clunks,smoking,etc. obviously, just my opinion

 

The service manager is looking into this thing we've heard about Toyota extending the warranty for the transmission from 75,000 to 100,000 miles. I will let you guys know what I hear

 

Ok, I have been doing research reading and calling a bunch of friends and shops. The consensus seems to be dependent on transmission design. What I have summed up is that new transmissions are more forgiving and it seems that unless the transmission was 1qt+ empty and only if you're having bad symptoms. (Loud clunking, major slipping, and the tranny jumping out of gears or not shifting t all. ) Just my own conclusion.

I just dropped mine off at dealership, they said it was normal for this transmission to have the delay. They are looking at the fluid level so they say.

 

There is no delay on mine now, for the record.

 

I will also ad that the people @ Summit Toyota were great people. They treated me right & listened to all my inquiry's, Good job guys!!!! A++++++

 

What mine was doing that convinced me to take it in, was like if I steped on the gas and held in one spot while it was accelerating it would serve and relax and serge and relax over and over again Even though I didn't move my foot at all

 

Just adding more info and confirmation from others to the data.

 

Mine had a slight delay from R to D when cold that is now gone after adding that amount. I'd also disconnected the battery for a bit, reconnected it and then went for a 20 minute test drive. Zero problems. 300 miles later, it drives like I feel it should.
Not sure what this is worth, but I made an after-the-fact observation:
The 1/2 pint of fluid that ran out the over flow tube when I added the quart to adjust the level was absolutely clean/clear looking.
That's after nearly 800 miles of driving with it low.

 

Dealer said delay is normal and they wouldn't check fluid level because there was no codes thrown. I guess I need to check it myself

 

Call Toyota and open a case. Then call dealership with said case number and make THEM do it.

They're supposed to.

 

I'm a bit late to this thread.. but as many other threads and posts raised concerns, I asked the dealer to perform the following things before I took delivery:
- ATF level / top off
- rear diff fluid level / top off
- u-bolt on rear axle torqued properly
- grease the zerks

The dealer's service department gave me one of those reports you get when you get a service listing what was done.. but I'm a bit suspicious (like i should be). The service report basically had my words from my e-mail to the dealer copied.... looked almost like a ctrl+c then ctrl+v... The reason why I say this is because usually in service reports, I see things itemized into line items... in the report they gave me. it was just a paragraph of (almost exactly) my words in my email...

I registered to the Toyota owner's site, and this is what shows for the service record for my truck's VIN. "Service Details: Vehicle Inspection - Customer".... Is this supposed to show things that were checked / performed itemized in detail?


Should I go back to the dealer and have them check in front of my eyes? Or should I just call corporate? I'm not feeling / experiencing any weird transmission behavior, but I think I saw the OP warn that even if the transmission isn't showing any symptoms, ATF could still be low...

 

Took mine in today at 1800 miles having the same issues as everyone else is stating. Got a call saying they scanned everything and it was good to go (like I knew they would) asked them to check it manually and was told they would check it in the morning. I'm almost certain mine is low due to all of the same symptoms. If they tell me it's fine again I will have a hard time believing them. I would check it myself but can't open the video showing how to get it into temp mode. Is there any other tutorials that show how this is done and where the overflow and fill caps are?

Awesome, thank you! I'm assuming the procedure is the same on the 16's? I have read somewhere that on the 16's that there isn't a temp light that flashes, however the "D" on the shifter will flash. Any truth to this? I would assume the procedure is basically the same.
