it's plastic, plastic doesn't like cold and prying forces... but I'd expect them to be a little better than that... considering it hasn't been super cold... I'd expect it if you'd been recovering in sub 0 temps... but who knows... Talk to who sold them to you... AND I'd talk to Maxtrax... they might have had a bad batch, I've not heard of people snapping them before.

Lmk what MaxTrax says, because I'm picking up a pair to help some of these stranded motorists out in our storms.

Depends what kind of plastic they are made out of. Just think of ice trays for example. Spend their whole lives in freezing temps and people bend and twist the shit out of those things.

Oh I know, I'm just saying in general plastic doesn't like extreme cold. some polymers can be made to tolerate it more than others, but having had ice trays that cracked over time, I'd still say they don't like it. But yes, to your point, there are plastics that do much better in cold than others. I THOUGHT Maxtrax were made to withstand cold too...

Good find on the maxtrax registration site. I shot them an email last night.

And for using them on uneducated drivers stuck on the roadside... Remember that telling them to not spin their tires goes on one ear and it the other. I don't mind pulling them out but won't let them ruin my maxtrax.

And they are probably stuck because they have no tread, and no tread means no traction on the boards.

I think a 2x10 would have better results. But that's just me. :crapstorm:
I would not use them for a recovery aid for strangers. Strap it or call a tow truck to avoid liability.

Yup, i tried once at the ice races when all the subies got stuck at once, he just wanted to spin his tires, thankfully they weren't able to catch so i put the maxtrax back and pulled him out.

    it's a 2" board, I think 3" screws would work better. ;)

they all measure out to 1.5 or 1.75and unless you are trying to pop their tires or want traction on both sides i dont thing its needed. but you could sell an extreme version that uses some acq and use some 3/8 lag bolts:thumbsup:

Who uses a finish cut board for traction?
I'm talking rough cut here, splinters are beneficial for traction.;)
