Plasti Dipped the rims, and removed the front mud flaps. I had a bit of rubbing when at full turn, so now, no rubbing. Makes that chrome bumper stand out so much now. Looks like i have more plastidip in my future.

A little harder with stock bumper. I removed the grill and cosmetic bumper (comes off in minutes when you know how), and that made things much easier. I used a floor jack and a piece of firewood to lift the body. There's a strong lip right next to the mount that's a good lifting point.

I didn't remove anything. Granted a little harder to get too, but it can be done. Was definitely an upgrade and worth it.

That stuff gets off grease and grim. Our motors are usually pretty clean and not oily. I have the best trick ever Taco man. A fellow worker taught me this years ago and it has never seized to amaze me. I've also told a bunch of people and we all do it to this day

I just power wash the engine compartment. I go to a place called Ernie's car wash up here(Don't know if you have in CT). Spray the dirty and oily section good. But make sure you get everything. (like battery, brake master cylinder, radiator shroud, etc, etc). All the clear plastic stuff that gets dusty looking i concentrate on. Just with the regular soap and then rinse that comes out of the power washer guns

Then take a bottle of Armor-all and spray the piss out of everything!!! I mean basically close your eyes and pump the bottle everywhere. I try and avoid the belts and stuff like that but i get every hose and every piece of plastic. All the metal also. I spray it so it basically dripping everywhere(I keep the motor running because i'm old school and back in the day you had to avoid distributor caps). And here's the best part; that's it. You don't touch a thing. Just close your hood and go for a 15 minuet ride. Stop, open your hood and you will thank me. It will look like a brand new motor compartment. The driving 15 minutes is just to speed up the drying. I've always done that since I drive to a place to use a power washer. But you probably don't have to. If it was nice out today I would go do it to show you before and afters. But trust me, I never give any advice unless I know it works unbelievable. I do this about 3 to 4 times a year and every single time I'm amazed at how good it comes out. Not only our trucks but all cars I do this to work amazing. Even old 300K motors look ten times better when done.

The best part is no scrubbing or elbow grease. You won't believe how all the clear plastic comes out. Or how the battery looks after. The hoses are the best part. They all look new. And I've been doing this for years and no ill effect happens. Never had to change a hose or anything because of doing this. If anything it might make them last longer?

P.S. Do this before you clean your truck. the armor all and gunk from the motor does get over your fenders and windshield a little bit. So i do this first and then clean the truck.

The next decent day we get here I will do it and show you the pics.(it's so easy and effortless i can run down and do it during lunch). As long as I have a full bottle of Armor-all, it only takes me 10 to 15 minutes to have a new looking motor compartment. But it seems winter in back at the moment.

Hey all, first post here on TW.

Quick intro: Upgraded my rusted out '98 TRD Off Road a couple weeks ago. After three years of "just one more winter", I finally pulled the trigger and put myself in a 2011 TRD Sport 4x4 M/T Double Cab.

    Untitled.jpg

"TACOMA has leveled up! TACOMA is evolving!"

Now that I finally have a truck worth putting some time and effort into, I've been spending plenty of time around these boards, and the list of mods won't stop growing. First order of business, though, is something super quick and easy (and probably not even noteworthy), blacking out the front logo badge and the door badges with plasti-dip. I have my eyes on a new grille, but this is the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to get a pretty slick look going for now. Didn't do the tailgate badges, because I have to remove the dealership sticker first, otherwise it would look really weird. Might just end up taking the badges off the tailgate entirely anyways.

First I took the truck for it's first wash (under my supervision, that is), then removed the grille, grabbed the spray can and got to work.

    1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4.jpg

Getting the dip out of the middle of the A's on the door badges was a pain, but I managed to do it with a steady hand and an itty-bitty piece of scrap wood.

    Cheers!

I meant the one on the grill.

& a good way to get the dip off of the center of the letters is with a tiny pick. You can buy a set of different angles for like $10 at Home Depot.

Not a Tacoma but it works wonders.

Yeah I figured that out after I was done and looked at the inside of the grill and saw how it was actually attached, lol. Overkill much? :p

Installed my Clazzio seat covers - they rock! Pain in the ass to install, but worth the blood (literally)... When I ordered them, Clazzio actually called me to confirm the seats I ordered were correct for my truck (access cab with fold down/table back passenger seat). They told me they get a lot of guys ordering those by mistake and wanted to make sure... Great customer service.
