Dumb question, but what is that?

Just got a 2012. Was checking under the hood, and for the first time ever, I saw something that I had no idea what it was. I have been under many hoods (older cars mostly) but have never seen this before.

So, at the risk of looking completely dumb... What is this in the picture?

 

Which thing? The abs module or the vacuum pump?

 

Emissions bullshit it gives that whistle when you shut off the truck

 

The block-looking valve with the 4 lines (4 wheels) is the ABS brake system. The circular thing is the smog/air pump..... gives the 'fart' sound when you shut off the truck.

 

Top of picture = ABS Pump.
Bottom of picture = Emissions Pump that pumps air into the exhaust to heat up the o2 sensors.

Note: It is not a vacuum pump.

 

Something to do with smog?

What's the module mounted above the ABS unit?

 

That emissions pump everyone is reffering to is called an air pump.

 

That would be the Skid Control ECU. Just above the ABS Unit.

If you have the Hydraulic Brake Booster it is integrated into the ABS/Booster/Hydraulic Unit on the drivers side.
