I can assure you it is NOT a characteristic of the truck. I have not experienced anything vibrating at any speed. I had a howl and that was fixed. No further complaints. HOWEVER if Toyota keeps claiming these things are a "characteristic" of the truck (such as my own howl which was foixed by me) I will not buy any more Toyota products, That's a domestic habit "Oh its a characteristic of the car"

They are not going to buy back your Tacoma due to vibrations.

I am 99.99% sure that you are correct, I do have a lemon law Lawyer waiting in the wings to look over everything. If that is a no go as well, then I will trade it in

I considered going this route, but decided to just see what I could get on a trade in. Received what I thought were very solid numbers and cut bait. It's wasn't worth the hassle for me to go through all the BS associated with lemon laws etc. I really wish they could've fixed my truck, but life is short and I was annoyed by the issues every time I drove it.

Wait so you traded yours too? How many Forum users have traded their third gens within the first year of ownership I wonder.

I sold mine after 2 months but it was because I just couldn't get the seat comfort to work for wife and I and at 3000 miles a month my back of legs and back and seat was just too much problems for us. Everyone is different but I loved the truck otherwise. New owner picked it up end of Jan and I am sure is enjoying the ride. I ordered a new Diesel Colorado crew 4x4 which I have had 5 weeks now and although i liked the Tacoma in many ways more the comfort is much better but still not near as nice as my 15 Tundra i traded. I think when coming from full size the more room and bigger seats for if you are in it a lot are just much better. I think both Chevy and Toyota can do much better job on the seat comfort and make them bigger also. I am not a big guy at 6 foot and 185 pounds but my 04 Lexus gx 460 seats are bigger and much more comfort. Same as my wifes 14 VW executive Tourareg seats are just unreal nice. No reason they couldn't of made these just as nice with 10 way adjustable also. That said i love having the smaller truck over the full size in town and driving the narrow streets in traffic and just parking in garage and shopping areas. Love the 2.8 diesel so far but i can tell you comfort still is not as nice as the f150/Ram or Tundra but it is decent and love the size. My Tacoma off road though was way ahead of the chevy i have now but it is give and take. Still love the 16 Tacoma and hope they make seats better and maybe a diesel in it too.

I think this is the only option, regrettably. Toyota is not going to just give in and buy it back for something I'd consider minor (yet VERY annoying) let alone bigger issues. The LL Lawyer will be able to focus on the state laws for this and make a solid case in court that Toyota cannot deny. I think your leverage here is that only some Taco's have this vibration and thus it is a result of their manufacturing process.

North Carolina lemon law applies to the following new vehicles purchased in North Carolina:

    • Passenger cars.
    • Trucks.
    • Motorcycles.
    • Most vans.
The law requires manufacturers to repair any defect that impairs the use, value, or safety of a new motor vehiclewithin the first 2 years OR 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.

In order for your car to be considered a lemon, all of the following must apply:

    • The issue occurs in a part of the vehicle that is covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and you are within the warranty period.
    • You notify the manufacturer about the issue in writing and provide a reasonable period not more than 15 daysto fix said issue.
    • The manufacturer has had 4 attempts to repair the same issue and the vehicle has been out of service for a total of 20 business days or more over a period of 12 months during the warranty period.
    • The manufacturer's efforts to fix the vehicle are not successful.
Under the lemon law, when your manufacturer is unable to fix the defect, you get to choose either:

    • A comparable new car.
      OR
    • A refund.

Our Field Technical Specialist inspected the vehicle during the most recent visit. The concern has been deemed a characteristic of the vehicle. They did send in a technical report to Toyota to document the concern with Toyota Headquarters technical department. This makes them aware that consumers are unsatisfied with the function of the vehicle for improvements in the future.

At this time, Toyota has made the decision to deny your request for repurchase/replacement through the Lemon Law process. A letter will be sent out by our office on behalf of Toyota Motor Sales.

So, they offered to buy my Tacoma back, but I'd end up losing 2 grand out of the deal. Thinking I'd be better off just keeping it and hoping they come up with a TSB in the near future.

    Dang that's sucks.

I read about common issues to look for before I signed all the paperwork on my 2016 with 4 miles. I test drove it overnight "Put 35 miles on it" and tried every button to make sure that the truck is in perfect working condition. I also checked for loose driveshaft bolts and stuff.
It seems to be perfect until 2 weeks later the tranny seems slow to shift from R to D on cold days. Had tranny fluid checked in front of me at dealer and it's not low. I do hear the motor buzzes while slightly accelerating but I guess it's normal. But nothing viberating. I had my 16 for 3 months and love my 16. Maybe I'm lucky...
