I have never been a fan of blue trucks. That said. I love the BBP. I almost got it instead of quicksand.

A little of this and a little of that.
I took my 2nd Gen (2011) six-speed manual DCSB to get the emissions tested. The young man (early 20's) working the emissions booth couldn't drive a manual. I told him that it's a life skill, and ranks right up there with swimming and bicycle riding. Must learn!

4 out of the 6 technicians at my dealer cannot drive a manual. Can you guess who is not allowed near my truck when I take it in for service?

How many times, between my '05, '12, and no doubt, in the future, this new '16, have I seen someone try and try again to reverse the truck using 6th gear... "Up and to the left, buddy."

Where in the clutch travel would you guys say it's grabbing with the new 6 speed? I thought I remember someone saying their's was deep in the peddle like pushed in 2/3rds. I think mine is earlier like between 2/5ths and half way.

I love this- "life skill". I can't believe the number of people I have met who can't ride a bike or swim. We went to test drive a car a few years back (manual Beetle) and the salesman couldn't bring it up nor could he find anyone else who could drive it. He gave me the keys and I handed them over to my 16 year old daughter who jumped in and drove it up. More than a few heads turned that day.

That wouldn't be me but there is a possibility that you got the one I ordered that was built with grey instead of black interior. I think the whole batch of manuals came in grey for that allocation.

I test drove a manual just for kicks. Man, it was sweeeet. However, I have to back up my camping trailer on a slightly, "L" shaped driveway so the auto won the day for my situation.

Just went to the dealer yesterday to talk pricing, and the closest M/T on the new '16 is like 1000+ mi away. And there are like 20 coming in that already have buyers on them. Guess I'll be ordering one (or "preferencing"). The wait will be killer. I guess that just gives me some time to say goodbye to Garth (04 Xtra Cab M/T).

I haven't towed any large trailers so this is a noob question, but could you explain why would a MT be a disadvantage for backing up the trailer in a bend?
Would it be a lot of low speed clutch "burning" running in the friction zone and not fully engaged in gear?
Would dropping to 4WD-Lo help in this case?

Also, would the MT also be at a disadvantage during slow speed rock climbing?
    Again, clutch burning friction zone?

I love my MT but so far I've only been driving on paved streets, need to get it off-road!

    Thanks!

How is the clutch take up on the manual trans? Soft, aggressive? And are people adding short shifter to the Taco MT?

I tow trailers regularly and have for the last 20 years or so, always with a manual. Beats the hell out of me why you'd need an auto, maybe infrequent user of both (trans and trailer) and splitting concentration is too much effort. I'm not saying that to insult OP mind you, I could actually see that being an issue. My kid sister (she's in her mid 30's) put a good 500+ miles on my truck recently and even though she was raised on manuals she hasn't owned one in 5 or 6 years and I saw a lot of hesitation every time she pulled away from a stop or needed low range.

It is amazing how things have changed in a relatively short period of time. My highschool drivers ed car was a 5 speed Escort wagon so you either learned to use a clutch or you didn't drive
