Heavy duty steering rack

I have a 2002 Tacoma and th steering rack is going out, the inside bushing is obliterated and looking for a heavy duty one to deal with the bigger tires. Is the trail gear one much heavier duty than an oem one?

I doubt it. Says it just a remand unit. For another $75 bucks you could get a brand new oem unit. Which is what I have found to be the best replacement. You could also check out cvj for oem remand units. They run for less than the trailgear units. There is also rack doctor that a lot of guys have had good results with. I am curious though I have not heard or read anybody using these traikgear units...but have heard that the brand trailgear over all is not the best quality parts. Good luck in your search

 

Just don't want to keep replacing them. I couldn't find the cvj or the safari ltd to buy.

 

The cvj is on there site. Note sure about safari? Rack doctor is a good one though.

What do those help with/do? Never heard if those before.

 

Probably like a cover for the outer tie rod.

Ended up just replacing the outer and inner tie rods with moog and 555 Japan.

 

Stumbled upon this thread while trying to find a HD rack. Careful if buying from cvj. They have three options and you're going to want the most expensive one and I think at that point it's more than oem. The lowest priced one uses the the roller guide, the step up uses the bushings but there inner tie rod limits your down travel thus destroying them (this is the one I purchased), I'd assume the top dollar one has good tie rods.

So a year and a half of use and the octonut on the control valve completely backed out and left me filling my boots with atf. This nut should have been peened to prevent this and there was no sign of it. Since I had the rack apart I thought I might as well replace all the seals and ended up scoring the inside of the cylinder leaving it fubar. Before disassembly I tried getting it covered under warranty but I didn't think to find my receipt when i took it to there shop before I tore it apart. I guess they don't keep records of credit card purchases. Anyway my fault there for not thinking of that before hand.
