Alright, I finally have the time to make my audio build thread. I have had it done for a couple of weeks now and it was worth ever minute of the 50+ hours I have in the build. I tried to take lots of pics to help anyone with their truck.

I started with a mountain of parts, I went with Kicker, good quality product.

I actually had to buy more parts but anyone that has done anything on their truck knows you don't usually ever get everything the first trip.
I went with a Kicker KX 400.4 to run the front mids and tweets and the 2 ways in the back doors. http://www.kicker.com/40KX4004
The mids and tweets I went with for the front doors are Kicker KS Series 6.75 Components. http://www.kicker.com/41KSS674
The 2 ways are KS series 6.75 coaxial speakers for the rear doors. http://www.kicker.com/41KSC674

I wanted to keep the stock head unit because of how intagrated everything is to it so I went with a zxsum8 signal processor to take the high level speaker outputs from the deck to low level RCA outputs to go to the amplifiers. http://www.kicker.com/10ZXSUM8

For my subwoofers I went with Kicker Comp RT shallow mount subs. They hit much lower than I thought they would for a subwoofer built for a small box. I went with 1 ohm voice coils so I could bridge them each up to 2 ohms and then bridge the two of them up to 4 ohms together to help my sub amp run a bit cooler. http://www.kicker.com/43CWRT101

I had a long time member of TW, @Mr Marv build me my boxes. He was half the price of the local shops here in AZ including shipping! I had to carpet them but that wasn't too big of a deal. He is a true craftsman that has been building enclosures for a very long time. I was actually kind of sad that I carpeted them because they were so well built.

I didn't want to have to cut any wires so I bought these two metra adapters and used speedwire to get the signal from the head unit to the signal processor.

I HAVE A FULL WALK THROUGH FOR RE-PINNING THE HARNESSES AND WIRING IN THE SPEEDWIRE ON PAGE 7 OF THIS THREAD.

I HAVE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL SPACERS WITH LONGER BOLTS TO PUSH THE BACK SEAT FORWARD ON POST #750.

THIS WILL ONLY WORK FOR THE NON JBL SYSTEMS.

I had an Alpine 1.600 monoblock amp to run the subs that I had in my Mazdaspeed3. It is a little monster and can push just about anything.

There is an awesome video on taking the doors apart from OEM audio. This will save me some typing so here it the link to their youtube video.

    I am willing to help anyone out so please feel free to ask questions. 20160317_155924.jpg 20160325_155214.jpg 20160325_155227.jpg 20160325_160346.jpg 20160325_160426.jpg 20160325_160503.jpg 20160325_162806.jpg 20160325_162830.jpg 20160325_165549.jpg 20160325_165604.jpg 20160325_165721.jpg 20160326_062713.jpg 20160326_064051.jpg 20160326_064104.jpg 20160326_064131.jpg 20160326_064140.jpg 20160326_064158.jpg 20160326_064243.jpg 20160326_064330.jpg 20160326_064417.jpg 20160326_064457.jpg 20160326_064659.jpg 20160326_084627.jpg 20160326_084638.jpg 20160326_105300.jpg 20160326_210400.jpg 20160326_211657.jpg 20160401_171027.jpg 20160401_175833.jpg 20160401_182109.jpg 20160406_203504_zpsumhulnta.jpg 20160406_212037_zpsgkkzxw2w.jpg 20160415_160112 - Copy.jpg 20160415_170300 - Copy.jpg 20160415_170932.jpg 20160415_202223.jpg 20160415_205053.jpg 20160415_212352.jpg

Can you please re-upload the one picture of how you suggest others wire up the HU to DSP? Its not showing.

Also, where did you ground out the amps?

Sure here it is. I just grounded my amp in the back to the seat belt mount bolt and the one under the driver's seat I grounded to an existing ground spot from the factory.

Finally got the parts to start building mine. Where did you route the power wire through. I was thinking the same nipple in the OEM video but can't tell if a 4 gauge wire will fit.

Here's a pic of the metra harness I started. Removed all the wire that aren't needed. Going to shorten the wires up and solder it again. image.jpg

That's some good work right there. There is a grommet directly behind the battery on the firewall that was pretty easy to get through. I will take a pic of it later today for you.

Like the OP I used the existing rubber grommet on the battery side of the firewall, plenty of room and a 4ga power wire fit through easily. Used a small phillips head screw driver to punch a hole through, just be careful there are other wire bundles going through the grommet. Keep the hole small and the grommet will seal nicely around the power cable.

what are the dimensions of the box? Specifically how deep did you make the bottom, and how wide did you make each enclosure?

I honestly don't know. I had @Mr Marv build it for me. He asked me not to give the dimensions out. Let me see if I can find the drawings for another enclosure that another member gave to me for his box. It will probably help you out for sure.

Here's is where I ran it through the firewall. It is directly behind the battery.

Yeah, I was able to get two 4 gauge wires through it.

I like this box design because is allows more room to mount the amp(s). I may have to design another with this in mind. However i am a bit concerned about the air space each enclosure will have... I only need .5ft^3 for the subs i am running.

If it's too small you can stuff the box with polyfil. It makes the sub think there is more air space than there really is.

Nevermind, you are thinking it doesn't have to be that big. Duh. Sorry about that

yeah i have heard that. I just read that his box gives about .28ft^3 per sub. But his box does not go all the way up like my design which may give me the space i need. Also im thinking that a sealed box will sound better in a truck so the ported design maybe a project box to build after i build a sealed box.
