new shocks for my 04......opinions wanted!!

definitely needing new shocks for my 04........the crappy tokico shocks on there are definitely worn out from offroading, and the truck needs some bilsteins.....definitely!!! but i cant decide which ones i want to get.......billy 5100's all the way around, or billy heavy duty's all the way around???? what the hell should i do??

thats probably what im leaning toward getting. it will probably help to have them too, since i will eventually lift the truck. not quite sure yet though......the hd's will probably ride pretty smooth too!!

 

Well if your going to lift it, you should just wait instead of putting new shocks on it the taking them off to lift it even higher

actually, with the 5100's, you can set them for stock height, as well as 2.5 inches, so they'd actually work ok.

 

Oh thats right i forgot that they do that, yeah deffinettly get those, if you get the heavy duty they could be to heavy duty and could ride even rougher.

 

ok.............will do that, maybe soon as next week.....the wife's bonus is perty sweet, and shes gonna let me get shocks!! if i set them one setting above stock, for a bit of lift....will i need an alignment??

Are the stock bilsteins on the trd's good, r they the cheapest of the bilsteins or what

 

well, it just got aligned ..........had to, the steering wheel was way around to the right. now it tracks straight, and the steering is straight too. but i'll get the alignment when i put the shocks on.

 

The 5100's are a good choice but you need to consider how much lift you may eventually add. If you're looking for a 6" lift then I would wait on the shock purchase as the 5100's won't work for that amount of lift and therefore a waste of $$$. I have the Sway Away Race Runners (3" coil over lift in the front) and they are a far superior shock to the TRD Bilsteins but are pricey.

 

when the time comes, all im planning on doing is a toytec 3 inch lift, so i think the billy 5100's will be ok for it. however, the saw's are sweet as hell.

 

I've been wanting to level my 04 and was looking at the adj. 5100's but they don't show a listing for the 04 (only 05- later) can they fit the 04. I've seen others say they had them on the earlier Tacoma's so I guess they can be made to fit? Also can they be set anywhere between stock and 2.5 inches (I'm thinking about 1.5 inches would be about right) or just one or the other?
