My wife pointed the sign out as we were driving home (she has no idea people refer to tacomas as "tacos") and I made an immediate U-turn lol. Just too perfect.

As an adamant turd gen hater, they have been growing on me. Went and test drove one last night. Will be selling second gen for turd gen. Everything about the truck seems to be an upgrade, especially the interior.

I can see all the haters now getting ready to crucify you! :deadhorse:

True though- just better all around. Strongly urge you to consider the 6 spd too. Buttery goodness.

Bit of advice: Do your due diligence with the test drive. They all have vibrations, howls, and rumbles. get it to 55-60 and then feather the throttle and listen to the diff howl. Do a dozen 45 -> 0 stops. Feel the rumble strip feeling from 25 and under. The trucks vib/get loud at ~2100-2500 rpms. IF you can live with all of those things then enjoy the truck. Its awesome. But those issues exist for all tacomas.

The 6sp trans is a bit of a turd. It gets better (especially once its properly filled), but ECT is how the truck should drive.

I'm sorry, but mine doesn't have any issues either. The howling noise was easily remedied by by plugging the holes in the lower control. No vibrations or rumbles

What exactly are the howling noises you are referring to and exactly how did you remedy the issue?

My second gen is a six speed and I'm pretty done with it. The rev hang drives me insane and it's not the best six speed either as far as shift quality. The third generation may be better but I need something my girlfriend can drive, and she can't drive a manual very well, nor does she seem to have the ability to learn. Also, I want a 4x4 TRD Off Road Access Cab and those are only available in auto. I'm definitely ready for auto. I've never owned an automatic before and with the massive amount of driving I do I'm about ready for one... I hate to say :/

After owning a 3rd gen I can say with certainty that the worst thing about owning a 3rd gen is all the TW members that DON'T own one bitching about how terrible it is and how much better the 2nd gen is. :smash: (not saying the 2nd gen isn't a great truck)

    Me in the driver seat.
I'm going to jump on this train and confirm that mine doesn't have any of the aformentioned issues either. The only thing my truck does is stay in second gear too long. I'm assuming it has learned that I get up to speed quickly and it's waiting for me to let off. I might pull the positive lead off after my 5k checkup to reset it. it's coming soon.

Yeah I get tired of it too.
Don't own a 3GEN but have had a few pre-GENs, couple of Tundras (1GEN/2GEN) and now two 2nd GEN Tacoma's.
I really like Toyota. It has its quirks for sure as does every other MFG.
It would be nice if everyone wants what is best for whatever generation Tacoma you own.
    But ....it's the internet
someone usually wants to be top dog, out do, out mod, out finance, strut their stuff like Foghorn Leghorn in Looney Tunes. :goingcrazy:

Why can't all gen's just get along?

    I like them all equally.

I just like mine more, and that is merely because it's mine. I don't tout one gen over another because one day soon another gen will replace me.

    It's merely truck evolution.

Nope, you're wrong. I have 7k on the ODO and haven't experienced any one of these symptoms and believe me, I've carefully looked for them just to be sure. Nada, zip, zilch..

Yep same here, just the howling from the lower control arm. Should be cake to fix that.

Same here, not one issue with mine. The transmission is getting better every time I drive it. I'm at about 1500km now and I guess its learning my driving patterns. Also I'm avg 10 L/100km (23.5 MPG)
