2010 Tacoma, first oil change, what kind?

Hi all, its time for my first oil change in my Tacoma, I have always used Mobil 1 synthetic in my past 3 4Runners (86,95,and 2001).
Always had good luck, I have someone wanting me to try Amsoil?
Any Suggestions?
I was thinking to stick with the Mobil 1.

why would you want an "oversized" oil filter?

 

Mobil one oil + mobil 1 filter size m1-209

Damn. I wish I had this info before getting my oil changed this morning. I will do this on my next 5000 mile change.

 

You should do your initial 10,000 mile break-in with petroleum based oil, then switch to synthetic. Just my 2 cents.

 

As far as oversized filters go, obviously more filter capacity is a good thing, but make sure you pay attention to quality first. I would rather use a normal sized K&N or Mobil 1 filter that filters down to 10 microns, than some oversized store brand that might filter down to 40 microns. If you can find a quality oversized filter then you get the best of both worlds. JMO.

 

I would wait until at least 10K miles before switching to Synthetic, I personally think 15K is good seeing that some folks in here clain gas mileage improves up to that point.

You want the engine to break in before going to sythetic, because some experts think that you will never give the rings a chance to seat once you use synthetic.

I am not an expert, so I am not sure if this is true. But being a technician myself, I do understand what a break-in period is, and in my opinion, waiting a little bit is the best route to take.

Also, 5w-30 is not recommended in my truck. I have a 4cy and factory recommends 0-20w or 5-20w. Using a thicker oil will reduce gas mileage.

 

IMO, this was true years ago, but modern engines do not seem to need the break-in that the old engines needed. In fact, there are quite a few vehicles that come with synthetic from the factory. I switched my Tacoma over to Mobil 1 at the first oil change with no ill effects. Having said that, it doesn't hurt to wait until 15,000 miles to switch either. JMO. Good post.

Machining is far superior today then it was a few years ago and we certainly don't see the kind of metal in the oil that we used to but I still think those rings have to seat in the cylinders and I like to break im in hard with regular oil. Most of that however is being done in the first hundred miles or less.

What weight is recommended for 2010 six banger? 5w-30 for full synthetic?

 

If you use an oversize oil filter, won't that screw up the oil pump and flow rate?

I did my first oil change at 2k miles and put in Napa (Valvoline) Synthetic 5w-30. I'd rather run cheaper synthetic and run a shorter OCI (3k) than run a hella expensive synthetic for 10k+ miles.

 

Dos'nt the 2.7 four cly. require full synthetic or did that not start until the 2011s?
