    I do...

I put 40k+ a year on them and have lived with the 10k oil change thru more cycles than I'd like to think I've paid for with ZERO issues. Some vehicles I've owned use oil condition monitoring (BMW & Honda come to mind) and sometimes the interval is even greater and never had an engine oil related issue with those either.

Just had mine changed at 5000,which turned into an ordeal. But anyway oil did seem very dark and dirty, much more so than my Tundra looks like when I change it and it is at 200k.Hope it is just because its new and breaking in..

So you bought a new vehicle and didn't know anything about the service schedule?

No, I read the manual six or seven times before I bought the truck. I went back and read the service manuals for each Tacoma from 2001-2015 to be sure I understood everything about Tacoma's before I wrote the check. lol

No an oil industry convinced us for many years we had to do it at 3K. Been doing 5 or 10K for many years on many vehicles. Including rather expensive audi A6. Been sleeping good at night since.

I'm accepting the fact that these new oils, especially the synthetics, can protect engines a lot longer than the oils of 25-30 years ago. I don't accept that "the oil industry" had anything to do with changing oil at 3000 miles years ago. I had a 1970 Ford Maverick that when I changed the oil at 3000 miles, it looked like Guinness Stout, only blacker! I can't believe that oil would have lubricated very well much beyond 3000 miles!

oil color is no accurate means to determine an oils usability. My A6 would turn the oil dark brown in 100 miles. Detergent additive oils look dark because theyre doing their jobs. Holding sludge particles in suspension and not building up so the oil can do its job lubricating, and yes an oil can reach a max suspension amount, this however usually isnt an issue with 10K service life. Unless of course your car is breaking itself down internally.

To be fair, I think he's referring to oil from 40 years ago...in which case he's probably right, after 3,000 miles it would start to really look bad and need to be changed. These days, with how far we've come in creating blended and synthetic oil, it's no surprise they can last much longer, even if the color shifts.

46 years ago, conventional oil was all that was available and yes it would likely have a hard time doing it's job given how poorly some motors were made then. So unless he's this guytdsbbhslgjqjuljtmtpc.jpg

lets all agree 10K bueno on new additive synthetic oils. I would also say theres probably a correlation with dealer paid services and 10K oil changes vs consumer paid as well. But ive had plenty of friends sent their oils out for analysis at various milages and a good synthetic saw little difference between the 7500-10K plus miles.

Why are you not going to follow the manufacturer's recommended interval?

Why does anyone care when someone else changes their oil? It isn't like changing it more often than is recommended is going to hurt anything. It's a recommendation, not a law. Ever heard of erroring on the side of safety? What about when the manufacturer recommends you go home because that noise or weird acting whatever is "normal"? Do you follow that? If oil is that great nowadays then why not just replace filter and go 30,000?

Not just you, I'll do 3-5k if conventional, 5-7k with synthetic. I don't give a crap how good shit is I am not going 10k on a new vehicle before changing oil. New RAV4 got oil changed at 2500 miles and fuck the free changes at dealershit anyway. I change my oem filters and oil and they can sell cars. People can do whatever they want and whatever they want won't be appropriate for everyone else.

I take very good care of my stuff to, before just buying my new Tacoma i had a 99 Dakota i bought brand new in 2000 and have drove for 16yrs ... i never went over 3500 miles between oil changes and did them myself. The trucks interior looks like new and it has only 135k miles on it .. getting ready to put up for sale and i'm sure someone will appreciate the care i took of it.
I was just joking with you ... but at the same time i will probably stick with my 5000 mile free oil/filter changes via Toyota Care then after the 25k miles i will change myself at probably 3500 mile intervals
