Hello all, first post here. Picked up my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport last month, and I love it. This forum, in particular this thread has some really helpful information. I perused several pages but I haven't made it through all 63 yet. Anyway, I noticed there were some concerns with buzzing/vibrations with the RPM's in the 2000 neighborhood. I had this issue, it was driving me insane and robbing me of any enjoyment driving the truck. The buzzing was very subtle, but it was all I could hear after a while. In my case, it sounded like it was coming from the glove box area. Behind the glove box, there are a couple bundles of wires covered in a hard plastic sheath. It appears that Toyota cut the sheath opened and placed it around the wires instead of feeding the wires through a solid sheath. It was the sheath itself that was creating the buzzing, so I took some electrical tape and tightly wrapped it around the sheath, which tightened things up and now the buzzing is gone. That's really the only issue I've had, and I'm glad I was able to take care of it. If any of you are having similar issues, the plastic sheathing might be a good place to start.

Just program a new station there. I don't think you can delete pre-sets. You can just re-program.

 

Good question. From what I have read it is learning your acceleration and braking habits. Some people accelerate slowly from a stop. Others romp on the gas. If you tow frequently. If you carry heavy loads frequently. If you coast to a stop or brake hard to stop. An example if you romp on the gas frequently the transmission will adapt by holding a gear longer before up shifting. There are a number of articles on the subject. Just google "Toyotas learning transmission".

 

A friend of mine is having issues with the head unit glitching on and off at random. Is anyone else having problems with that? She has an appointment at the dealership to fix it but it only happens once or twice a week. Any ideas?

 

Apparently this is an issue on the entune systems from what I have read. Believe there are a few threads on this. I'll see if I can find the thread for this and link it here.

Start driving it differently. I used to work for Enterprise Rent-a-Car and a lot of customers would have complaints about the cars' trans (mostly Toyota and Ford). Ford's is a bit worse in the Focus with it's shifting. Anyways, when you drive it a certain way for so long it adapts to your driving style. So if you start driving differently, it will learn a different style.

 

Disconnect your battery for a while, like 1/2 hour, and it will reset the learning mode.

 

OH MY GOD I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS. Thank you. Did you have to take out anything in the glove box or was it accessible from underneath?

I've only had mine a few days and it has already started shifting more to my liking. I'm hoping it continues to get better with time. I've also heard they are working on a software update for how the transmission shifts.

 

It's accessible from right underneath. It's an easy fix, took me a couple of minutes. You'll see one giant bundle of wires off to the right, that one should have tape binding it together, and there are two much smaller bundles more near the center, those ones have the plastic sheathing that was making the noise. Tighten the sheathing up with electrical tape. Hope this helps.

Noticed something small today that I don't see in the main post. While listening to XM radio; use steering controls to select XM as a source, (even though it's already selected) you will be able to scroll through all of your radio presets (including FM/AM). Found this to be a nice feature instead of playing with the head unit.

I dare you to play those songs in order from A-Z. Should take you only 660 days if you jam a couple hours a day.

I'm impressed with the Carista equipment (Aoo annd OBD2 adapter). Now if they could come up with a way to read our transmission oil levels.
