Hey Everyone! After moving across the country twice, I'm finally looking to get back into a Taco. I'm looking anywhere between an '09 and an '11 (registration on vehicles newer than five years old here in CO is rediculous). With that said, I'm obviously looking for the Off-Road package. But can't get a lot of info on the "PRO" addition. From what I can see, it is an inclusion of the TRD performance exhaust and an upgraded suspension system. Is that about it?

If I just got the Off-Road trim level, I would be adding a lift and no doubt a performance exhaust onto it. So it may be worth it trying to find a Pro Off-Road v6.

    Thoughts? :)

I think the pro has leather seats and a different grill I believe. Just paid my registration on my 2015 here in CA, just shy of $500 :frusty:

Off road package is largely bells and whistles that just work in 4 lo. I'd widen my search to SR5s 4wds if I was you.

You can get the off-road version and modify it yourself to be just as capable or better than a "Pro" model for less than what Toyota's price difference is, most likely. In all reality, the key selling point of the TRD Off-road package versus the SR5 is the rear locking differential

Mmm miss information here. The pro models only come in 2015 so that would obviously be a no go for your criteria

Now if you're talking about the the baja package than those could be had '10-'14. And if you plan on upgrading suspension anyways I'd just stick with the off-road.

The way I looked at the 2015 Pro was I liked the way the sport looked but wanted the locking rear diff. So my only option to get that from the factory was go pro. And plus I get the awesome looking grill.

Bilstein 5100's w/ Eibach coil overs in front (set at 3" of lift). Front diff drop kit. Extended Bilstein 5100's in the rear. Deaver 2" AAL in rear w/ axle shims. 285 x 75 r 16 Goodyear Duratracks. Wheelers steelies type B, AFE cold air intake. Sway bar delete. All Pro Apex front bumper (rattle canned Rustoleum primer + flat black). Plasti-dipped emblems. Mud flaps removed.
TRDOR or SR5, mod it yourself after to make it look like you want. Much more fun and rewarding.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
The biggest of which you can bypass the 4WD controller and turn on whenever you'd like.

@OP the differences between the two are largely things you can (and depending on off-road level) will make up in aftermarket parts. Offroad/Pro suspensions are hucked for King, OME, Icon, Fox, etc. An ARB air locker is preferred over the factory e-locker. Grills can be replaced by hand with Custom Car Grills, Grill Craft, or Satoshi modded. The TRD exhaust is liked by some but wouldn't be nearly mean enough for me. You can even get TRD wheels for any trim you like.

In short: as long as it's 4WD you can get what you need after market. If you like the idea of a fairly capable truck without having to change a ton of stuff yourself: go offroad. If you'd like it to look different than most Tacomas out there go with a TRD Pro.

People need to get something straight here

OP is stating the "TxPro" package.... NOT TRD PRO. the TRD pro was not made in 09-11, but the TxPro was, two COMPLETELY different packages. The TRD Pro would be nearly identical to the TRD Baja of the 09-11 years.

The TxPro package is simply a TRD off road with different rims, cat back exhaust, decals etc.... nothing that makes it any more functional than the TRD off road.

The TRD Off road on the other hand has many benefits over the sr5 / sport. 09+ TRD OR 4x4's are the only ones to have the electric boosted master cylinder, capable of 2x brake line pressures compared to the vacuum assisted setup on any other model. This provides a better firmer more responsive braking regardless of 4wd / 2wd. This also allows for a much better auto lsd action as well as the fact you have atrac available to you. You also get a rear locking diff stock, front tow hook, gas tank skid plate.

Good post, but that's exactly what I said.

Also: gas tank "skid plate" is probably a more accurate way of phrasing it.

The TX Baja package (somewhat comparable to TRD Pro) is only available on '12-'14 model.
