I need new rear L&R speakers. I bought the TACO with 19,000 miles on it 4 months ago,,, I should have check the sound system. How much do speakers run?

 

Just a quick search I've found that they run for two speakers about $100 - $250 depending on quality.

 

OK, I swear I had saved it but now I can't find it. I want to add a good aux in so I can use my iphone in the truck. 2008 double cab 4wd v6. Non JBL radio. I seemed to remember seeing a unit that just plugs in to the back of the stock radio.

If you go to crutchfield and put in the model of your truck, they'll tell you if it will fit.

 

Tons of info here but not what I was looking for. No one is using the factory amp bypass harness? Is it because it is too much work or because you are all maintaining the factory sub and amp? Crutchfield sold me the

$33 Metra 70-8117 Factory Amplifier Harness for 2004-Up Toyota Vehicles with JBL Sound System

Metra 70-8117 harness. He said I would get more out of my headunit's amplifier than the factory amp. I plan to add my own subs and amp to replace the JBL sub.

 

Thanks for this thread. I just purchased a Pioneer SPH-DA120 (works with Apple CarPlay) and am looking forward to doing this install myself on my 2011 Double Cab. Unlike in highschool where I learned by trial and error doing my stereo install, I actually read the installation instructions this time and got a good handle already on the wiring. I just need to pick up the dash kit, wiring harness, steering wheel adapter kit and antenna adapter before I can get started.

I found one other member running the Metra line of adapters in this thread. Any other feedback on these? Price was good and reviews on Amazon are good too so that's what i'll go with unless somebody has some nightmare stories.

Only thing I'm a little timid on is the GPS antenna install and mic placement. I'd really like have the GPS antenna mounted outside on the top of the truck so that means i'll need to get under the headliner and drill a small hole in the roof to feed the wire through. As for the mic I'll need to take the a-pillar cover off and run the wire behind there and up to the headliner. My plan is to mount the mic just a little to the left of the rear view mirror but mounted to the headliner.

Any input on this part of the install is greatly appreciated. I am excited to have an aftermarket stereo again

 

Awesome thread, a lot of great info. So I've done the research, know the kits, harnesses etc. I need but...what I'm having trouble finding is anecdotal evidence of Android phone compatibility.
I was about to pull the trigger on this one:

There seems to be only 4 compatible units with 'Android Auto' for my truck (2 pioneer, 2 Kenwood) but they're on the upper end of the price spectrum.

Any Android users here have luck with double din video heads? Even if bluetooth was shaky, I would think having a dedicated usb-micro usb with your phone plugged in would be solid and that would work for me.

Thoughts?

This should correct the issue you're referring to without having to replace the factory HU.

 

Why not keep the GPS antenna within the cab? It would prevent extra labor and leaks.

Hey thanks for this link! I've always been under the impression as others in that thread that satellite's need the clearest line of site as possible but will certainly try mounting on top of the unit.

My dash kit comes in wednesday as well as my wiring harness'. Going to try and tackle this on Sunday.

 

I just picked up this head unit and all the install peripherals. It works great with my Android, but I can't seem to get the steering wheel controls to work.

 

is there any interference when the face tilts out to access the DVD slot? According to Crutchfield, this unit as well as the 5800 may have clearance issues when the face tilts out. I'm putting the 5800 into my 2006 Tacoma. Thanks!

I haven't had an issue with that. I will say the hazard light button is a tight fit in the hole of the faceplate - too tight. It gets stuck in when pressed and I have to pop the cover off to disengage it. I've read this is common and a litttle sanding to the egdes fixes it. Haven't got around to it yet.

No issues thay I know of.. it will open fine to put a cd in and everything.. only thing I don't like is the hazard button sticks alittle. It tight fit with the bezle
