They were, haha. My Tacoma is in the shop being repaired from an accident. The girls insurance rented me a 2016 F-150 with the V8 and I gotta say. I'm dying to get my Tacoma back. And that's saying something considering my truck is a 2002 Tacoma.

Lol... No way bud. 2.7 Ecoboost 0-60 in 5.6 sec, Ram 1500 w/hemi is 7.4sec. Might want to re-think that last comment, lol.

That's fair . It is in a midsized truck though which doesn't seem like too much of stretch as compared to a 2.7 in a full size. Just because I'm a little sceptical doesn't mean the jury is in and I can't be convinced otherwise. I don't believe Ford would stake the reputation of their biggest money maker if there wasn't something to it. I bought the 2015 because I didn't want to purchase the first year of the 3rd generation.

I'm not of the opinion that 5 years is a good gauge of long-term reliability especially in a full size truck. Yes, the 3.5 is new, but I don't think anyone is really concerned about the reliability of Toyota engines.

unless you bought a 3.slow back in the 90's :pout:

edit: they weren't all that bad so long as you addressed the head gasket issue, to be fair.

There has been hardly ANY issues reported on that 2.7 L ford motor. I just heard they also coming with a new 3.5 Eco motor matched to 10 speed tranny, topping 450lbs torque and better mileage. I wish team Toyo starts thinking of an efficient motor. That V8 in Tundra is ancient. My Neighbor's 2016 City MPG never registered over 13 and combined is around 15-16. I am still undecided myself between a Taco and 150. I guess I will find my direction later this year. I have 2015 Rav4 and it is a real good little car. City MPG is 23 with Highway hitting 29 with all passangers at 65 mph. This thing has more legroom than taco (Surprisingly)

Looks like I'll go for a trade! Either Chevy Colorado or a Ford F-150.... let the test drives begin!
"Our Field Technical Specialist inspected the vehicle during the most recent visit. The concern has been deemed a characteristic of the vehicle. They did send in a technical report to Toyota to document the concern with Toyota Headquarters technical department. This makes them aware that consumers are unsatisfied with the function of the vehicle for improvements in the future.
At this time, Toyota has made the decision to deny your request for repurchase/replacement through the Lemon Law process. A letter will be sent out by our office on behalf of Toyota Motor Sales."

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
OK. How about 10 years. Ford first used the 3.5 eco in a Lincoln MKR way back in 2007. So that's about a decade of use. Pretty respectable. Now the little 2.7 and upcoming new 3.5 are unproven and scare me away. Better I think to stick with the 3.5 or 5.0 for nw. Anyway, Tacoma engine 3.5 is also unproven and new with lots of untested tech changes. We'll have to wait and see what the durability/lifespan is.

Tpyota does have some wierd problems that never should've left the factory. But, remeber: thats the first year of a new generation. I have the same problem with acceleration. Slightly pressing in it will do nothing but hitting a certain point will down shift and start going nuts. Leraning that truck's acclereation and gas pedal habits is like learning how a woman works. You can understand some of it, but you will NEVER entirely undertand what the computer is thinking. The tacoma is a great truck with some weird quirks. Hopefully Toyota will fix those problems. And sorry to hear that you werent 100% pleased with your taco

These two are very respectable auto makers. F150 is bread butter for Ford. I have doubts they would put an inferior product out their to spoil the name. Taco have a mark of their own in mid size. I just wish Taco is offered with some fun motor and better economy numbers

If you can actually afford to buy $120K + vehicles, it probably isn't your only vehicle and you probably aren't too afraid to use it how you want. Then again some people rent $800 apartments and Lease M3's

Exactly, haha. I've driven through trailer parks and seen brand new beamers parked out front. Priorities lol. Just seems like a waste of a truck, but that's just my opinion.

I think we've all experienced it. You're driving along at a steady speed and then hit a slight uphill incline. So you very slightly press the accelerator, just enough to feed a little more fuel to maintain speed. But nothing happens, and you continue to slow down. So you depress further, and still nothing happens. Finally you press down quite a bit, and suddenly everything changes. The trans downshifts, engine RPM goes up, and, I think, the motor shifts from Atkinson to Otto cycle. In other words, you now find yourself in hard acceleration mode, which you never intended and the driving situation didn't require. I'm inclined to think that the fuel wasted in these unnecessary but difficult to avoid hard accelerations largely cancels out the fuel savings afforded by the Atkinson cycle. Given my driving habits, I have an idea that if there were no Atkinson cycle with this engine, I could probably get better mileage from it.

Agreed. I belive the Atkinson cycle, resulting in less air/fuel mixture being compressed, makes the engine work a little harder to achieve acceleration demands. Atkinson cycle logic in a nut shell: leaking air/fuel mix = more mpg. I dont understand it. Youre getting less done with each power stroke by leaving the intake valve open during a portion of the compression stroke, resulting in some of the air/fuel mix, the stuff that you need, leaking out before it shuts. Therefore, less power per power stroke

I heard about the Ford power plant you mentioned. My understanding is at least initially that is to be the power train for the 2017 Raptor. One of the reasons the Tundra does so poorly gas mileage is the gear ratio to find a gear ratio like the one in a Tundra on a Ford you would have to look at an F450 also the leaf Springs are heavier. Though the Tundra is marketed as a half ton it is in fact somewhat heavy duty.

    Yo!
    I had a 1995 pre-Tacoma 3.0 V.6 never needed a head gasket.
Put over 250k nothing but brakes, a couple of windshields, fluid changes, idler arms, a clutch, and gazzzzzzz
Only sold because the fuel and brake lines and A-Pillars started to rust out. The frame was A-ok back then. ;)
VIN started with JT loved those trucks built in Japan.

I live in an apartment because of the school district . The cost of living is low here so $800 will actually get you a nice apartment gated ,pool gym the whole bit. My son graduates next year ,I'll start looking at houses then.
