I have been checking around and waiting on my local dealer to come off MSRP which has been a battle. As I was looking on cars.com today I am seeing several 33,000 dollar TRD Sports now listed at 31,000. Is the hype wearing off and sales slowing down already? I am now getting ready to pull the trigger and thought I would share for those who may also be waiting for the right deal.

The 2WD trucks seems to be easily discounted, but not the 4x4 ones. I think it's been that way since the truck came out.

That is true. I had to go to a completely different state to even find a 4x4.

Makes sense, however my dealer has been different. I love the dealership in general, service dept. is excellent, my salesman is a good guy. Bought the wife a rav4 through them and got a heck of a deal on it, but they seem to think all the tacos are lined with gold or something.

Same here in the San Francisco Bay Area. We don't have much need for 4x4, but any Tacomas are flying off the lot. I got mine 2WD for only $700 bucks under MSRP. Out of 20 or so dealers in the 200 radius around me, all wanted either above MSRP or MSRP only.

Seems great deals can be had on 2WD trucks out of CA.

Lots are empty here. I was in last week getting my ATF checked and filled, and while there were Tundras and 4Runners out the ass there were zero Tacos. None. Zip.

They're sold before they leave the port.

In Fresno, dealers have one or two on lot. But rarely see off-road 4x4. Took me three months and call every dealer In a 300 Mile radius, no one will go more the 300 dollars off. Then got lucky and call Madera which gave me 600 off. Took the deal but had to wait for 2 day while it came in. the next day another dealer call and want to match Madera, made them go back and forth with each other till Madera took off 1700 off. 38700 msrp got it for 37000. Deal can happen but you need to be lucky and patient.

It's the whole segment, not just Taco's.

I'd never pay anywhere close to MSRP for a stinkin pickup truck, especially a brand new model that is currently being QC'd by the public.

Wait until the dealers get off their thrones over the "new" model, and the all bugs get worked out. That would be this cranky old fart's advice...

The 4x4s are very popular here in NM. Lots of open country and indian reservations, so they see alot of use.

I was browsing a dealer near me while waiting on my wife to pick me up from dropping off my daughters Accord that I'm still waiting for call backs from two different sale people. They had 8 or 9 Tacoma's on the lot. I wanted to go inside and tell a sales manger how well the sale people follow up on their leads but just kept walking. I made two different visits last year when I was waiting on more stock to show up and talked with two different salemen.
It was kind of fun though walking thru the lot. I was as far away from the front door as I could get, it was damp and misting and two guys came out and were milling around the door waiting for me to get closer. I just peered into a few windows of cars and casually walked over to the Nissan lot after having them stand there for almost 10 minutes. They walked back in. I was LMAO.

But to the point, they really didn't have any in stock last November and now they seem to have an abundance.

Easier to get unstuck in the 4x4 when driving drunk on the rez and you end up in the ditch

LOL! I can't fathom trying to operate MTS and Crawl Control when shitfaced, but you're right - loads of arroyos to get stuck in out here.
