Replaced flat 3 leaf with flat 4 leaf springs. I had the TSB 3 leaf ones... one broke and now I have a new flat 4 leaf spring on one side and an old flat 3 leaf spring on the other. If they were going to replace only one they should have put in another flat new 3 leaf spring.:annoyed:

I went to the dealer today with my recall notice. They did the inspection and said I will be getting new leaf springs on both sides. They just have to order them.

I called a local dealer here in MT a month ago asking if this replacement was ever going to happen. I was told "maybe" early April. As of today, I still haven't received a notice from corporate to contact a dealer.
I recently purchased an OME kit (TW GB) so I now have dakars on the way. The factory replacement leafs look as flat as the originals, so I feel better about ordering the dakars. I wonder what my chances are of getting reimbursed?

Mtkrawlr07, In my recall packet that came Saturday there is a letter that says if you have had work done to fix the problem yourself. You have to mail your repair order, Proof of Payment and Proof of ownership to Toyota Motor Sales.

Take the lift out of the back then take it in? Or, buy some bad ass springs, get rid of the blocks, and TRY to get toyota to reimburse.

I would protest this on the grounds of a balanced suspension. That doesn't fly. That is NOT a PROPER repair. Talk to a Service Manager and if they will not correct it talk to Corporate.

EDIT: Does 4 hours sound about right to everyone??

MARSHBUSTER, Thanks for the info. It's at least worth trying for some reimbursement for those that already bought replacement leafs in the midst of waiting forever for this fix to actually happen.

An alignment is called for in the TSB instructions. It should absolutely be done any time a suspension component is replaced.
And I'm sure they are charging warranty for performing one

SO the alignment should be covered under TSB?

The technical instructions call for an alignment and a road test once the leaf springs have been replaced.
However the letter from TMS to dealers only provides warranty codes for for an inspection or replacement.

This could be where their confusion is about it on the dealership end.
If Toyota is including the alignment in the flat rate warranty time for replacing the leafs, I can totally see where dealers are pushing back about the alignments..or trying to get out of replacing the leafs all together.
This is a looser for technicians, especially when toyota is requiring it to be performed by a master certified tech.

When I called to make my appointnent, my dealer told me that the parts were back ordered, and they would call me when they came in.

Which was interesting because they only rolled out the phase for my region a week prior, and I called the same day letters hit mailboxes.
They wouldn't have rolled out the phase if they didn't have parts available.
the kits are pre-packaged and ship from a central storage facility. It shouldn't take more than 7 days to get ahold of them.
If I don't hear back from them within that frame, it will comfirm my suspicion that dealers either don't want perform the recalls, or are only taking them in when service departments are slow as filler work.

I took my 2010 in today for the replacement and just got a call from them saying they got it up on the lift and got it apart, but my lift blocks aren't compatible with the new leaf springs. Something about the alignment not being correct and they won't work with the new leafs. It's a simple 2" lift block, nothing extravagant. Anyone had similar issues? They said if I put the truck back to stock, they'd be able to do it but I'd have to find a new lift kit that works with the new leafs.

Yes, I gained 1 1/2" of ride when I went from the 3 leaf to 4 leaf under the earlier TSB. My ride height has stayed the same. (although I don't haul much)

Yes they did! I don't think I am going in for this recall because it is not included I should also mention that I received new shocks.

Has anyone had any luck with reimbursement for fixing their springs? Got my letter last week.
