Question: I live in a smaller town and we have one station that sell the EF gas. I buy it (as does many others) for my mowers, pressure washer, weed eater, etc. But, that is only once every couple of months. If I ran a tank of EF through the Tacoma how long would it take the ECU to compensate or would it take several tanks? Plus, when I travel I would have to revert back to E-10 anyway as I have never seen a station offering EF on an interstate in our "neck of the woods."

I take an occasional business trip to Oklahoma City and have found it to be in abundant supply at many stations around town.It has been running 10 to 25 cents more per gallon.I have noticed almost a one mpg increase when using this fuel [in my Tundra] on the highway.

What's also crazy is the most modern engines can run on several types of fuel. With minor modifications, most modern engines can run on E85. The modifications usually aren't even mechanical, it's usually just reprogramming the fuel delivery system to handle it. You can buy ethanol fuel conversion kits on the internet that just plug in and convert your engine to a flex fuel vehicle. I had one on my FJ for 8 years, and it worked great. The mpg was not as good as it was with E10, but during those years when gasoline was around $4 a gallon and E85 was less than $3 a gallon, the choice was pretty obvious.

The petroleum industry actively lobbies to limit our choices when it comes to fuel. In most states, they have been able to get legislation passed that makes it illegal to sell flex fuel conversion kits. More over, in some states, you can't pass inspection if you have a conversion kit on your car. But they are readily available on the internet from reputable dealers and are legal everywhere else in the world. I think we should at least have the choice when it comes to fuel, and let each industry compete for our dollar.
