    Just an update if you have a G1WC and your buttons are loose like mine were you will get a rattling noise during playback. Almost sounds like static. I just put some electrical tape over the buttons for now until I come up with a permanent solution. Was thinking of adding some silicone caulk around the buttons to help cancel the noise. So far the tape has resolved the unwanted noise.

    My dash camera hit pay dirt this last Thursday !!! On hwy18 it captured a texting driver changing lanes into the rear wheels of a Semi , causing a 4 car pileup. The state patrol took , well I gave it, the card. I hope they don't look at all of it. There might be a few "carbon removale sessions " !!

    Hey all. Long time lurker here...

    I just picked up one of these cams for my '12 Taco;

    http://www.amazon.com/Dashboard-Cam...psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

    I'm from California, and it seems we have some wacky dash cam laws here. The two that concern me are;

    1) if the cam is mounted in the upper-center of the windshield, it must be within a 5" x 5" area (mine will slightly be out of that range due to the way the mirror is mounted to the glass).

    2) there must be a notice posted in the vehicle notifying passengers that audio is being recorded (that's gonna look stupid in a private vehicle).

    Full list of wacky laws here.

    I assume you guys from California are just installing the cams and rollin' with it? This is what I plan on doing, but wonder if anyone is actually following these laws to the letter, and if I might catch some flak if I don't.

    What does one expect from the Socialist State of kaliforika? Silly laws if I ever saw one. Always protecting the perps, never the victims.

    I had no idea we had these laws but I'm not surprised. Just set it and forget it. I sincerely doubt that cops are aware of the the dash cam restrictions anyway

    So apparently with the last FW update, the good folks at Blackvue introduced the Cloud but reduced the possible bit rate resulting in lower quality video capture. Good news is that later this month they are issuing a new FW that allows users to select Normal/High/Highest settings. Right now I'm basically stuck on normal. Check out the clip I captured on the way to work this morning. Nothing terrible but the driver of the Infinity was clearly not paying attention

    I need to find me a battery powered cam that you can clearly see plates on, Any recommendations?

    I live in the DFW metroplex which is known for some of the largest amounts of uninsured drivers along with hit and runs

    Yup just got mine in today and Noticed the same Damn thing. And not too impressed with the nigh time quality. Things are kinda blurry. And green traffic lights are blue. And can't read plates at night. But whatevs. Will see how it does during the day tomorrow. Was kinda hoping it would capture my led light bars output good, but it's just ok. But not the reason I bought it. Will see how long this one holds up to the summer here in az. Functions quite nicely though. I like it for its intended use. No problems with it mounting except the slide lock to attach the camera to the suction cup is a pita to remove. Feel like I'm gonna break it. So I think I'll just remove the whole thing instead when I want to upload files. I consider this to be an entry level cam. Of/when it fails, I'll upgrade to something far fancier.

    Oh! And there IS in fact a button to lock the current file. That was a nice surprise.

    The slide mount does need lube. I too just remove the whole thing suction cup and all too. If it weren't for the low price I wouldn't have bought this cam but given the high remarks on most dash cam top 10's I think the pros out weight the cons. Have you messed with aperture for the night time and WDR?

    rexing v1 you can puill it off and show it to the officer and pull the plug off too I just got one cause I saw a member here who bought one the v1 has a internal battery so once that is fully charged and you get in a accident you can show the officer etc. also if you have a Tacoma cause the rear view mirror is low you can mount it above or lil above the rear view and can see driving movement on it while driving or turn it off and still be recording

    v1 has the lock button also the g sensor after you get in a an accident you hold the ok button for 2 sec and it locks that file away and the rest keep cycling erase etc.

    ... ^^^ ... Guessing now ... probably best GoPro with with 4k might do it. With 4k, you can probably enhance pic to read license at a distance.

    I use a powered cam with a 64-128GB chip and download to storage via wifi in driveway.

    ... ^^^ ... IMO, it looks like that CA law is trying to eliminate private (non-LEO) dash cams.

    What I did on mine was file down the shoe part of the mount a bit, it goes in and out like butter now.

    Negative. I thought about that after I posted. Tried changing them parked. But will have to try it driving in town. Gonna do some searching in dash cam forums too. See if I can find any more tips or tricks. Or maybe a firmware update. Not sure I wanna mess with that though. Not having done that stuff before but read that some have. Probly not gonna mess with it too much for a while. Wanna see if it's gonna hold up in the heat first.

    I recently decided to go with the Thinkware X500D Front/Rear Full HD camera setup with the hard wiring kit for the parking mode feature. Picked it up on Amazon for about $180... I think it went back up to $250 though.
