I am brand new Toyota owner, not a mechanic, not a "truck guy", not an expert on anything vehicle related. Traded my Frontier for new Tacoma 5 weeks ago. Very different vehicles. Toyota has great reputation, my son has almost 200K on his Taco and it keeps running. I wanted back up camera & 4x4 (tow a small boat to lots of different ramps).
I really like truck & im giving local dealer a big thumbs up for after sale service.
Reading & learning on here (thank you all). Read about transmission fluid level, concerned I took to dealer. The Scout GPS also didn't work (unable to enter an address, screen freeze). Got BS about not wanting to check fluid..yep I printed all the stuff on here. I called Toyota Customer Service - very unhelpful. Meanwhile Service Intake guy started asking around about fluid. (I offered to pay for check if full, they pay if low). He found information indicating fluid level 1/2 at low..got approval and no charge added 1/2 qt. fair enough
Next, nobody can fix the Scout (3rd party installed by Toyota) nav app. It's not even on the Apple Store this morning. Can't remove app, can't install another nav app...so I'm still driving around with my phone on my knee to see maps (did link via Bluetooth sound, so get turn by turn verbal) but this is kinda bs to me
MPG is less than expected, but if I drive like the EPA at a steady 55, I got over 24 mpg...once, I don't drive like the EPA :)
The cruise control is goofy (just like others on here say). I wish somebody made a bed extender that fit in the rails (like Nissan). Once you use a moveable extender you'll understand.
And I'm really starting to like this truck! Comfortable and confident in the way it drives and handles. Tows my skiff well (but sucks gas). Even though I'm not a car/truck guy, I'm seeing all the upgrades many of you do...got me thinking :)
Last: thanks to all the experts, tinkerers and others on this board. Little I can contribute, but lots I can learn.

What made you trade the Frontier in?

I realize all dealers are different l, but my dealer has not hesitated to fix one of my concerns except for the bowing seal. But when they were thinking it could be my after market tint I showed them the weather seal thread and we looked at their inventory to find it on most of the new tacomas they fixed it. No problems what so ever.

They get paid from Toyota they should not be giving you such a hard time.

6 years old. Numerous dings, a bit of rust, interior showing wear...concern about transmission cooler/radiator issue (did not have any signs, but only covered till 80K miles)...wanted back up camera, wanted 4x4... Kinda just ready for something new. Didn't want a full size. Looked at new GM models (Canyon, Colorado). but history & reputation of Toyota ruled, new Frontier same as old version (haven't changed in years).
