Hey guys, Got two electrical projects going on this weekend. Need some clarification on wiring them up.

    1. Flush mount reverse lights- Dont need switches or anything fancy, I just want them coming on when I'm in reverse. Ive read its the yellow wire on the trailer harness? Is that right? Where is the best place to tap into?

    2. Rock lights- I want them to come on with the dome light/key. This is the blue wire running down the pillar from the dome correct? Might want a switch for this one tho, is it possible to have the dome and add a switch later down the road?

Wiring is not my strong point so I figured Id ask TW's finest before I dove into this. Any help from the electrical gurus is much appreciated!

I tapped into the hitch wiring for my CREE LED backup lights that I put under the bumper. I'm 99% sure that you are correct on the yellow wire. let me look it up.

I cut right into the harness about 6" from the plug.

UPDATE ... Confirmed, it's the yellow wire.

I would suggest pulling back the factory looming and making your connection inside of there to protect it.

This is an easy way to get the control from the dome light. My weekend project soon. But this is what I'm basing my try on.

..? You Got a link for tapping dome light and the only real answer for simple no switch reverse wiring...you have two options so far.. tap into tail light reverse light or the yellow wire on trailer harness (as diagram shows) is there a question I am missing. .?

Not sure how to go about tapping dome light AND adding a switch on the dash for the rock lights. Not 100% sure how to do that correctly

Sounds like you want a 3 way switch. 1.On 2.off and 3.on when dome is on
I would look through tacoma world's footwell lighting forums. Then just substitute rock lights for footwell lights. Because alot of guys do footwell lights the same way you want your rock lights (on with dome lights)

Thanks man, I was wanting to use an Air On Board switch since they are the only ones that will fit below the HVAC controls. I hope they have 3-ways... What is it just an extra pin on the back of the switch?

Nope, the switch will have 3 positions. I pulled the kick panel on the drivers side and tapped in the light blue wire for my bed lights. I wanted them on with the door open. Check out CH4x4.com for switches. They are supposed to fit under the HVAC controls. Might be hard to find a 3 way.
