I have 242 miles on my new Tacoma. I just started noticing a high-pitched ticking noise when idling or at low RPMs. I can only hear it when the truck is warm (eg, when I start it in the garage in the morning, I can't hear it, but when I return it to the garage in the evening after work, it is really apparent). Took it to dealership and techs said it is "normal" and that corporate issues a bulletin about it that it comes from the fuel injectors. I listened to another new vehicle on the lot and it did not make the same sound (albeit the truck had not warmed up yet).

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thanks.

Yes, that is the cleaning cycle of the fuel injectors; this is normal. This is proprietory to Toyota.

Many call this the "Taco Tick" but the fluttering/ticking sound is heard in practically every Toyota engine built. My Camry did it. My ex's Sienna does it. My Taco does it.

I miss the 5VZFE, My 1GRFE was incredibly noisy and unrefined.

Your talking about lifter noise. The OP is talking about the noise from the injector cleaning. This is new to this motor only.

My FJ with a 4.0 has a tick at an idle. Kind of annoying but it runs like a top!

Thanks for the vid about the new injector cleaners. The dude in the vid likens the system to a self-cleaning oven, which is fine, but my self cleaning oven doesn't sound like a bunch of cricket has taken over my kitchen. Is anyone else annoyed by the seemingly always present high-pitched tick that the cleaning system generates? Maybe it's just me...
