Grew up baptist, later switched to a free methodist church, now no religion, dislike them all.

I've seen, heard and read of too many instances of atrocities committed in the "name of god".

Having grown up Mormon for the better part of 40 years, only to find that the LDS church couldn't answer essential questions relative to its central religious claims, I have in the years since come to understand that "religion," as the world understands it in its variety of forms, is entirely man made, subject to every whim, every evil and every weird idea that people can dream up.

Nevertheless, while I have long since given up any pretense to faith in what religious men (like the Mormon leaders I once trusted as proponents of truth) offer their followers, I do believe in the God of the Bible, and in His gracious gift of saving relationship with Himself through living faith in Jesus as The Christ, the "Anointed One" of God.

Today I'm simply a follower of the Biblical Christ, with no desire to contend with anyone about what they or others may or may not believe on a personal level. If someone asks, like here in this thread, I'll outline what I believe and why, ..but beyond that the ideas and beliefs of every individual are their own.

Our great constitutional form of government guarantees each of us the right to express or not express ourselves as we see fit, and whatever we may believe or not believe about religion we can all agree that the blessings we enjoy in this land are, as our founding fathers so often expressed it, literally gifts from the hand of God.

I once used that joke on a pastor. Turns out he was dyslexic. I felt about an inch tall. Now my daughter's been diagnosed with dyslexia and I've been having to learn a lot more about it.

I'm surprised no one has commented on Christian and Catholic being different choices. What's the thinking? Does the first choice imply Protestant?

If Bob were to include every sect, the whole first page would be the poll.

    Just a guess.

I'm not suggesting that. The underlying question is are Catholics Christian? And if so, which selection should they make? There are generally considered 3 major branches of Christianity: Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox.

Gotcha. I've always put "Christians" in the "Non-denominational" slot. That's where I got confused.

If Free Masonry was a religion then that's what I am. Since it isn't a religion then it is kinda hard to enumerate what I am. One of the very few requirements of being a Free Mason is being able to profess a belief in a Supreme Being. Which I do.

I totally dislike organized religion. Like someone else here said they have started more wars and killed more people then anything else.

I could say I'm a solitary witch like Charli did but I don't do any of the works usually associated with a witchcraft religion. I am friends with several in my area. A lot of witches in WVa.

The term Pagan comes to mind but still isn't really correct. Nor is the term Naturalist as usually it comes to mind. Oh well.

Are Mormons Christians? I know a lot of people that say no.

    Don't forget 7th day Adventist.

Every time I go to my Grandmas house in Atlanta a group of Jehovah's Witness always appears sometime over the visit trying to hand out their pamphlet. Last time they left before anyone opened the door because both of our dogs ran over to the door and where barking and growling and whatnot at them. Gotta love Schnauzers and their great judge of character :D

This is the only forum I've ever seen where an open discussion of religion remained civilized, intelligent, and supportive. :proposetoast:

Currently don't practice any organized religion. However, as others have mentioned, I believe there is a higher spirit. I try to be the best person I can be and treat everyone with respect. I was raised in a strange situation where the entire family is Irish but my Mother's side was Catholic and my Dad's side was Protestant (grandparents came directly from Ireland). Since no one wanted to upset the other side of the family, I was never baptized.
