I've had my truck about 3 weeks and it has not quite 700 miles. I don't feel a vibration in the steering wheel, but I do feel it in the accelerator pedal. It's usually within a certain RPM range.

It sorta reminds me of the resonating you get when changing mufflers on V-8's which I have done ALOT! Could the "buzzing" we feel be resonation from the muffler system? When I noticed it, that was my first thought, the muffler is causing a weird resonating that manifests itself as a "buzz". Of course, I've never had a brand new vehicle with factory exhaust resonating, but this could be a first. Maybe it needs a resonator... What say you?

If it were only that I'd try it. It's in the gas pedal, foot rest & steering wheel
I've seen a few mention the exhaust.

Have we heard from any of the guys that changed over to the Magnaflo?

I want a Borla exhaust, but it looks like it might cost at least $550 without labor.

outside of ordering something, do you know of any common materiel
that can be used to test it? Some I've seen looks to be corrugated like
cardboard, I thought about a few squares of just that taped together and
    placed under there.

Maybe cut up some old foam mat? These are pretty cheap to order.

I feel the vibration only in the steering wheel and pedals and mostly at highway speeds. If I take my hands off the wheel and then put it back on it is noticeable. My buddy who drives an early 2000's model F150 King Ranch was driving my truck one day and commented on it, that's when I started noticing it.

    Nice!

Funny you mention that! I'm heading out soon to p/u some new gel inserts for my
boots and thought, hmm, wonder if cutting them into a piece or 2 would do
anything for my vibe. I'm going to try the cardboard thing tonight for the ride
home and with the husky weather beaters I have it will be ez to stick it under there.

Currently, the foot rest hump is the only spot really bothering me, the wheel
and gas pedal aren't too bad.

EDIT: just did it so we'll see.

    This^^^

I think this is an interesting observation and one that I have also noticed. I have a steep grade going home from work. I pull it at 55 in 5th gear and that is where I notice the buzz the most. However, if I hit the light red at the bottom of the hill and run each gear up above 4000 RPM before shifting when i get to 5th I have a smooth as glass climb up that hill in 5th. Coincidence? I think not.

My guess is that by reving each gear high I am keeping the engine in Otto cycle, even when I hit 5th gear. If I'm slowly working through the gears to get up to speed I assume it is in Atkinson. So is the Atkinson cycle what is causing the exhaust vibes?

I don't have a real answer but it is worth exploring.

It most definitely seems to be load related as well at first glance.

However, I am not ruling out harmonics due to a driveline/driveshaft/u joint issue playing into it just yet. I still need to have the slow speed vibration fixed, either by myself, toyota or an external shop and the rest of the driveline verified good as well.

    I wonder this as well.

And then, there is also Toyota's D-4S technology that features direct and port fuel injection to consider. According to Toyota, this system "combines injectors that inject fuel at high pressure directly into the cylinders, together with conventional injectors, injecting fuel into the intake ports." The two systems turn on and off DEPENDING ON ENGINE SPEED. And that "DEPENDING ON ENGINE SPEED" may be in the RPM range where the problem seems to reside.

Yes, but then we'd have to look at it and say ok, it actually is normal engine operation. Or do we have faulty injectors or something of the like. Not everyone has the issue apparently, so that leads me to the cause for us feeling the vibration being a faulty component or assembly, not the Atkinson cycle itself.

If it is simply tied to RPM, why doesn't happen in 1st gear for me? Perhaps the injectors and or the engine behave differently in 1st gear even at the same RPMs.

Alright, I need the help of a buzzer and a non buzzer.

I had some time to dig around and if I touch the metal fuel line (there are a group of lines that share the same white brackets) that comes from the gas tank and runs up the driver side by the wheel well (right behind the front driver side protector flap towards the back of the wheel) there's the buzz. It even buzzes the gas tank. Went and touched the steering wheel, same buzz.

So, can a buzzer and non buzzer feel the lines and describe how it feels to you? I'm leaning towards this being the culprit. The lines run pretty close to the chassis, but I can't quite see how one of them would ground out yet (although the bend by the wheel well runs mighty close with no bracket support). Perhaps us buzzers have a line grounding out or a fuel pump causing excessive vibration. I guess it could also be originating from the engine and running back down the line, not sure.

If this is fuel-pump related somehow, the lack of it in the 1st gear may be due to fuel pump duty cycle. The duty cycle could be load related and you're simply not putting enough load on the engine in the 1st gear.

I've read much, but not all of this thread because it's pretty long. It seems that all the posters with the vibration have the automatic transmission. Is this some that also affects the manual transmission versions?

Yes, I have a manual transmission and I have the problem, it is in no way transmission related.

After a over the weekend trip I got to get numb in the foot twice. When coming off the mountains I was freewheeling in neutral through part flats The vibes goes away. This is a engine/exhaust vibe at certain rpms i believe. I also notice my truck exhaust opening up more and more. I wonder? Thinking about trying some exhaust dampeners on it. Also look at the p side of the headers, they have a brack to the engine. Also the transmission mount seems less dense also foamy compared to a rubber one. Heading to dealer again at lunch. Hopefully atleast gets me on paper so I can install my bilstiens.

I've heard this vibration in the steering wheel is pretty common... but my 2016 TRD-OR 4x4 DCSB Automatic has NO VIBRATIONS at any speed, or weird noises coming from the front like I've heard from many of you guys. Smooth and quiet at any speed.

BUT it does shift like SHIT; "unimpressed" is an understatement. I'm almost to 9k miles... I thought it would "learn your driving habits" like the dealer said, but it is constantly hunting for a high gear, and bogs and dogs and jumps gears wayyyy too much as a result. I put it in ECT Power Mode almost every time I drive it on the streets because I can't stand how it shifts.

Everything else on the Tacoma is awesome, but I am flat out disappointed with the trans.

As for trans I am a MT. Must say the low end is pitiful. Have to keep the rpm high but then it scoots. Held 6 gear at 70-80 all the home and some of that is 9% grade several miles long. BUT this vibe is tickling my nerves!
