I'm in the same boat, but the viper system with alarm and keyless entry was being quoted to me between $500-650..

Any links to the systems that you guys had installed?

So I ended up getting my keyless entry installed along with a remote start for $340! It works great, especially the remote start. In hot FL it comes in handy. Good luck to all who are trying to get keyless entry installed.

When you guys say "keyless entry" do you still have to press the lock/unlock button or just walk up to the door and it'll unlock ?

I guess I should be more specific - I meant luck/unlock using keyfob/clicker. My '16 Tacoma SR did not come with a remote keyfob/clicker, though it's wired for it. So I got a custom clicker installed and added the remote start.

I think aftermarket system and remote starts are better then factory because of the range you get

I definitely agree. Mine is the Avital 4103 model. It's got great range.

New To the forum but I am a professional installer with well over a 1000 remote starts under my belt, to add key less entry if your truck has electric switches in the door you just need a kit that has transmitters and a receiver under the dash. If you don't have electronic locks that gets a little more expensive as you have to add parts in the doors. There is also a kit from DEI called PKE (passive key entry) and that works kind of like the smart key trucks when you walk up to the truck it will unlock and when the transmitter gets a ways from the truck it will lock. I am going to install an AstroStart 5225 and a Smart Start module that enables me to remote start lock and unlock from my phone. Typical cost for a high end remote start with keyless is around 500 depending on add ons like PKE and Smart Start.

Wish I was closer lol I'm down in CA. I got just the valet key when u purchased my 2011. Would you recommend getting a master key replacement, I mean I just want an extra for emergencies. Also I'm not sure if the truck came with an alarm or not it has an entry remote but not sure if it has an alarm. How can I find out?

To test for factory alarm you need to roll down the drivers window and lock the truck, wait a 30 to 60 seconds, reach your hand in and physically unlock the door latch and see if the car horn starts to honk, to disable on that model you should just have to put the key in the door lock on the outside and turn to unlock. Usually a second turn would unlock the passenger doors. I prefer to have two working ignition keys myself, i like to have a backup but a valet key should unlock and disarm the door and also start the truck.

You are correct, as long as the aftermarket system has lock and unlock, now days it is easy to interface with all the new security and transponder kits available.

To test just roll window down (a must) and open door a hit lock on remote then shut door. Now see if your remote works.
