As title states I've ran into a bit of a problem. So here we go. I found the below pictured issue while cleaning up the truck to sell it. 2003 TRD extra cab. Approximately 154k miles. It was past frame recall when purchased. Otherwise a clean truck and been mechanically fantastic. I wanted to be 100% transparent in the selling process regardless. Hence why I'm posting this. Just looking for opinions moving forward. I am a very experienced welder/fabricator but I'm not sure I want to open that Avenue at this point. What do you guys think. Well built wheeler/daily driver. The smart asses can just move along I don't have time for B.S. Thank you fellow TacomaWorlders.

What's the rest of the frame look like? Is that the only bad spot?

If there is anything else anywhere or even significant rust, probably not worth messing with. Anything you do would be a temporary band-aid.

Surprisingly the opposite end is pretty solid. The rest of the frame is solid, I've kept up with it pretty well. I understand this doesn't help the selling process but to what degree I wonder.

What about parting it out? If the doors and bed panels are straight, you can usually find someone looking for them. Just a thought.

I don't think it's economically the best route. I'd put a flat bed on it and rebuild the frame first, but that's not at the top of my list. I'm looking to sell still

Does it have to make it through state inspection to sell?

if rest of frame is solid (the pics dont tell me anything as its been coated over by the looks of it) then for a welder it should be a fairly easy fix. the frame is really only about 1/8" thick anyways so whatever you do itl probably be stronger.

As im sure you already know its tough to take pictures of crap like this but you are correct I wire wheel it and put enamel paint on it once a year. I think I'm gonna go ahead and repair it myself, just gotta make some room to do it, this was a bit unexpected. Thanks for the replys

I would say if you don`t want to fix it and you were close ( your close enough) and we could agree on a price I would not think twice about buying it.

Why you would not just fix it yourself unless you don`t really like the truck that I can understand

Yup, that place is a couple of miles from my work. Someone I work with had their TJ Wrangler fixed there, legit place.

I do like the truck, very much in fact, I just bought a new one a couple months ago so it's time to move on. Shop space is the issue at the moment. Not like I can't sit on it but I'm ready to sell, so I'm just weighing options

If the rest of it's solid I'd fix it. That is very common where I live. People in southern states (SC I see) don't understand what winters and tons of salt on our roads do to these already rust prone vehicles.

Also painting the frame does just about nothing as far as rust prevention goes, looks good yes, but something like krown or rust check is going to be far superior to preventing rust.

Doesen't look to bad to me. I would cut out the rust as much as possible and weld in patches. Avoid vertical welds as they are stress concentrators.
