Looks fine my 09 has surface rust around every weld.. the paint is shit and you can tell the metal was never prepped properly (I sandblast for a living) I'll end up doing something with it probably next summer, I'm not worried about it I've had Chevy's that you could stab a screw driver through the frame

I agree that it's technically not a big deal. On that note, this is still unacceptable. You pay 30+ for a vehicle you expect the frame to be treated properly. My 14k vw golf is 200k miles strong in terrible salt weather with not a drop of rust on it. There is no excuse.

Amen, I know I have enough stress/worries in my life, without thinking about my trucks frame, that I paid extra for because it has the word "Toyota" on it. After years and years of the same frame rot, you would think Toyota would invest the resources to make a frame that is treated properly in the 2nd generation.

Rust Reformer says it's for surfaces up to 200 deg. Won't oil pans and gear boxes get hotter than 200?

I live in a heavy salt state I used FF and hose wash underneath in the winter when I can. Zero rust. I think in some peoples cases they may have had rust before they used FF. So even though they started at a later date with the FF the rust had taken hold and when those areas get washed of from road spray the frame starts rusting again. Its a never ending battle.

Theres a big difference though between the underside of a car and the underside of a truck. A car is completely coated with a thick rubber once the vehicle is built. There are no trucks with full frames that have that coating on the bottom. In the salt states, no trucks go without rust. Lots of domestic trucks that look like rust buckets. GM has had the issues of rusted out brakes lines on newer trucks from the same corrosion issues.

Im not saying toyota hasn't had its issues. The frames had specific areas that would rot out from the inside out. No matter what amount of inhibitor you applied. Supposedly they addressed this issue with the frame supplier. Time will tell. I spray mine off occasionally through the winter, but by no means religiously. If its gonna rot, its gonna rot. I'll just get a new frame sooner rather than later.

Is that really Mr. Rogers giving the finger or was that just someone else doing it? That looks real if it was fake though.

I personally think keeping these vehicles in a heated garage speeds up this problem. I almost bought a 09 until i put it up on a hoist and it was ungodly the amount of rust on otherwise an immaculate truck - owner couldn't understand it, said he always kept it in a heated garage

Corrosion requires moisture. Thats why vehicles in the desert states last forever.

Belive it or not, people that garage there cars esp in areas that get lots of snow and salted roads will out rust cars that never see the inside of a garage. I live in Ontario, lots snow with fluctuating temps in winter and LOTS of brine on the roads, that stuff is 10x worse then rock salt.
I have never had an issue with rust like some members on this forum have. I dont garage my vehicles ever, dont rust coat them and wash them maybe once or twice in winter. The moisture is whats causing your rust issue likely from being in the garage most of the time.Either park it outside or drive it more. Other then your leaf springs(a bit rusty imo) and the exhaust(most likely lots of short trips),everything looks normal.Ever see the under carridge of a domestic truck after 2 yrs??

I garage mine every day, and live in pa. Truck is covered in salt and deicer for a good few months of the year. No much rust on mine at all.
