They're claiming the injectors are clogged, however early on the told me the injectors tested good.

After the beach incident and everything I was at half a tank. I filled up at a gas station and drove home. If sand was the issue, my truck would still be dead on the beach and not of recovered 4 hrs later.

The only constant between both occurrences is water.

Good luck, OP. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. It is odd that you had such an easy failure. Thinking of what I've put my truck through, and the awful conditions it has survived, this sure is an anomaly.

    Jeez.
    Sorry man.
Is your ticket closed as far as they're concerned?
Have you been documenting everything they've told you?

That's pretty impressive that you pulled out a heavy duty truck like that. I have the same truck as you, even 6sp manual. I recently tried pulling out a silverado 1500 out of some sand that i ran circles around and got stuck immediately, I didn't even move the truck an inch. I barries my truck to the frame rails actually.

Ok well, first of all Fairfield Toyota is a crap dealer anyways, I run to Vacaville or Vallejo even though I live about 5 minutes from Fairfield Toyota. Every single time I've gone there I leave feeling pissed off by some shit they said or did.

Secondly, STICK TO YOUR GUNS. Corporate is gonna have to prove that there was an issue. Not some BS tech that made some shit up to get out of a warranty claim. Sand will not dissolve in fuel, period. And if what they are claiming is true, that sand got in to the tank, and in to the fuel system, (through a pressurized tank, and filtration sock, which if you've seen one, you'll know sand ain't getting through it) and then dissolved in the engine. BULLSHIT, show me the sand clogged injectors then. Or the scoring in the engine from glass forming in it. I can see maybe a couple particles getting in to the tank through the fuel filler, Ok, I'll bite on that one. But the quantities needed to blow your engine up, there would be sand at the bottom of your gas tank AND inside the fuel pump. If there's none in there, they are full of shit.

I mean, at this point you're at the mercy of Corporate. Usually once a dealer starts pumping me full of BS I take my truck elsewhere. It really sounds like they either found the issue and don't wanna pay for it, or they are SUPER grasping at straws and don't want to eat the lease for a new truck for you.

    I wish you luck!

Hey also, were you the 3rd Gen inferno/red I saw parked off of 680 a few weeks back at that little rest stop next to Chevron? I was the dude smoking on the green ZX10r trying to nonchalantly check out your truck LOL

So lets just pretend the Dealership isn't full of crap her for a second. Sand gets into your tank and then past all the filtration devices, shot through a high pressure fuel system where it would then be subjected to the extremely high heat and pressure of a combustion chamber. Now I'm sure I don't have to tell most of you what happens to sand when you subject it to that kind of heat and pressure. That being the case it seems to me that it should be easy enough to bore scope some cylinders and find evidence of melted sand either on the piston heads, intake valves, exhaust valves, cylinder walls or a combination there of yes? I mean if the sand is bad enough to cause the truck to go into limp mode than I would think that there would have to be evidence of melted sand where it was subjected to a super hot and highly pressurized combustion chamber, not to mention what would happen if any sand made it into the catalytic converters right? And yet not codes thrown from the O2 sensors.

Now the thing that got my attention is that this sounds just like perfectsoldiers issue. I'll link the thread below. Low and behold, what was she doing when the truck went to limp mode? She was towing something. Check it out and see what you think OP.

New to the area, didn't know about the dealer. :(

    No sir, mines MGM.

Yea I'm not convinced sands the problem. They just went with it because "there's and all over your truck"... well.. yea. It was windy as hell.

If sand was the issue the truck would of been disabled far before then, and not right after a car wash. It had no performance deficits that were characteristic of a clogging fuel system, until after the carwash

Remember that beach sand is not pure silica, and may contain minerals with melting points lower than temps you'd see in an engine cylinder (feldspars, for example). Vaporization is a different story.

That said, I have a very very very hard time believing/understanding how sand got into a capped gas tank through the carbon filter without the aid of water. Not only that, but through the filter sock, AND through the very tiny openings in the high pressure fuel pump all the way to the injectors.
How did they obtain this fuel sample they showed you? Siphon out of tank, or disconnect a fuel line and run fuel pump? Both methods could cause 3 tiny grains of sand to get into the sample bottle just from the surrounding environment. To me it sounds they are avoiding doing any diagnostics and simply going with the most "plausible" explanation based on what you told them, however implausible it is.

FWIW, the Magnuson Moss Act doesn't come into play unless you're in litigation.

They can deny you all day long, they don't have to prove anything until you file a lawsuit. So if you want to force their hand, you'll need an attorney.

Have you ever thought that someone may have poured sand down your gas tank? There are a bunch of assholes out there you know. Get your insurance to cover it based on vandalism.
