2016 Tacoma revs up and down while idling in park (Resolved)

My Tacoma Sport 4x4 will rev up and down (about 200 - 500 rpms) while sitting in park. It might do it while idling in D too, not too sure, have to check. Is this normal?

 

If it's with the A/C running, that's correct. The idle air sensor revs the engine when the compressor kicks on/off.

 

It's normal. The engine, like the tranny, is just 'learning' your idling style.

 

The AC is not running. Well the dial is turned to AC but the fan (system) is off. I'll try moving it out of the AC position to see if anything changes.

Sorry. It was a smart ass reply making reference to the transmission problems in the 2016's. No eye-roll icon available when replying on my iPhone. Don't take me seriously.

Turn off the a/c and make sure it's not on the defog (windshield) mode and see if it stops. It's likely your engine compensating for your air conditioning compressor kicking on and off. The defog mode also uses the ac compressor as I understand it, to remove moisture from the air.

NP, I see the joke now (been reading this forum for some time now) lol. So I figured out it was doing this while I was using the Settings buttons on the stearing wheel, and it was my slight movement of the stearing wheel (while idling in P) that was causing the rpms to rev. So this I am now almost certain is normal.

 

All cars do this. Some more noticable than others. Especially when they're cold

This makes no sense at all please explain what there is to learn while idling. Maybe the truck wants to know if he rides dirty. Or if he wants to ghost ride the whip. Or maybe it's waiting for the launch control to become active because it's a race truck

200-500 rpm change because of the AC? My 2000 civic auto when in 95 degrees, traffic, and AC pumping doesn't change more than 100 rpm.

It might be an issue with the POS autotragic transmission.

 

It was closer to 200 actually and wasn't the AC.

Did you ever figure out whether it was a problem with the vehicle or just an A/C related occurrence? I'm wondering because I noticed my 2016 Taco has been doing the same while idling.

 

Not as good as the bed separating from the cab post.

 

Its due to moving the steering wheel.
It triggers the power steering which
puts a load on the engine. The computer
tries to compensate for such movement
and injects more gas to the engine.

Makes sense?

 

It would if I actually moved the steering wheel at idle. But I don't. I do have the A/C blasting though so it would make sense if that was the case.
