I find keep your hands in the 10-2 position on the steering wheel till the officer instructs otherwise. A lot of movement in the truck cab prior to his approach will set off his alarm bells and the ensuing potential of a adrenaline dump. Going for your wallet or reaching for the registration prior to him reaching his comfort/saftey zone alongside the vehicle is IMHO is not in your best interest.

I have a CCW in Mass and would like to have a similar set up as the OP, but the firearm would not be considered in my possession, hence a potential felony. Mass gun laws suck... If the Bride of Billary get's in office we're screwed...

Thank you, I figured given the position of your glock. Regarding the clip question, I was just wondering how the plastic white releases the mag. It appears to have a tab that you pull or flip loose with your thumb.

That's right, you just flip it with your thumb, very simple.

As long as you have a concealed carry permit and you keep it concealed while exiting and entering, there should not be any issues. and as long as your weapon is not in the holster, it is just a cell phone holder!:oldglory:

I'm not a fan of the Serpa holster, but I am impressed with the OP's handiwork.

Come to think of it, I haven't gotten a ticket the last couple of stops where I gave my CC permit along with my license and had my hands at 10 and 2 when approached. Hmm. It's almost like being upfront and making the stop easier on the officer is actually appreciated.

He's probably just parroting stuff he's heard on gun forums from anonymous guys pretending to have lots of super spooky wetwork experience. I've heard these gripes before, they go something like this: http://weaponsman.com/?p=16642

YMMV, but I've never had any issues with those Blackhawk holsters. I run mostly straight OWB kydex or IWB kydex/leather hybrid holsters these days, but Blackhawk stuff always worked as advertised back when I used them a lot. The gun forum world is a bit of an echo chamber for people who like blowing minor concerns and borderline-imaginary problems out of proportion...the anti-Blackhawk holster crowd is a prime example of that if you ask me.

In my opinion they seem to be a really great option as a modular truck holster platform. That disc mount system in particular seems perfect as a permanently installed setup. You do the disc installation one time, then you can just swap out holsters for different guns whenever you want. At $25-30 per holster, you won't find a cheaper high quality option in my opinion, which is nice if you're constantly changing up your truck gun...most other fitted holster options are gonna be way more inconvenient to swap out, and/or cost 2-3x as much to stock up on.

Agreed. I like the Serpa because it keeps my firearm secure when I am riding the ATV, motorcycles, etc.

Which IWB do you like? I don't really like the ones I have. They're cheap Galco covers I bought just to have something around my Glock or Kahr when I throw them in the console or side pocket.

I highly recommend Remora Holsters. They are the top selling holsters that we carry in my shop. They are clipless so you can place them in whatever position that you like. The tacky material really does hold them in place.

+1 for Remoras. My dad and I both have the same SW snub for shorts-and-tshirt carry...I got a remora for mine and liked it so much I got one for him as well, and now it's his favorite holster. I'm not crazy about them for heavier guns, though.

For anything bigger I'd go with a more over-built kydex hybrid option that's meant to hang securely from a strong belt. Probably the best holster I've ever owned in this category is a Comp-Tac Minotaur, which I ordered for my P220. That thing is so fucking comfortable and has rock solid stability, although it was a bit pricey and they don't actually make that particular model any more, but it was almost identical to the MTAC and Spartan from their current product line. For cheaper hybrids, there's also Aliengear...I have one of those for my CZ PCR and I really like it, although the leather is a bit thicker and took longer to break in compared to the Comp-Tac.

Then there's this company called Black Dog Concealment...I don't actually have any of their IWB hybrids yet, but I have 2 full kydex OWB ones and an IWB appendix holster from them. For my dollar, I think they offer the best price/quality combo of any holster company I've ordered from, and their return policy is great. I'm planning to order one of their "minimalist" hybrid IWB holsters soon for my G26, and I'm fairly confident I'll love it.

Interesting. Did you consider the left hand version in order to put it on the drivers side of the console?

Well to be perfectly honest, I'm not s huge fan of the serpa holsters either. For concealed carry they are complete garbage. Uncomfortsble, bulky and easy to print. If I'm carrying outside the waist ( have no clue why I would be unless I was hunting it shooting competition) I would be using a much better quality holster. When I shoot competition I use my duty holster which is multiple retention because it's just he smartest way to go. Yes the serpa is easy and can be fast, but the quality is sub par a I personally think owb carry is ridiculous. As for carrying my gun in my truck, it stays on my person, it's where I train to draw from, therefore it's where I will carry. In a real shooting situation training kicks in, and if anyone trains with any real substance your only defeating your training. Shit happens fast, real fast, not enough time to think fast, and I'd hate to reach for my hip and realize it's not there.
