I see my mom most weekends; she hosts dinner Saturday night, and you'd better be there or have given advance notice if you can't. Nephew and his gf, Aunt and brother are usually in attendance. Other brother and sister live out of state.

Anyway, mom is a very down to earth type woman. No nonsense. One year I gave her a card for Mother's day. She looked me straight in the eye, and said, "I thought I taught you better than to waste your money on such things." Never again!

    Small useful for me stuff.
That's one of the biggest reasons I got silver too. Had a black truck for years and it was a huge pain to keep looking good. I'd rather play than wash every other day.

    Same as everybody else...
My father passed away 2 0 years ago this coming Friday. This morning I stumbled across a file of paperwork that he kept while overseas in Ireland, including a hand written resume from 1949. Pops when to trade school where he learned the trade of watchrepairman and engraver. About 1940ish he landed a job with Lockheed working on aircraft instruments in Ireland for the Brits. He eventually landed a job with the British "Civilian Technical Corp" ( I have his 1940 Dress Uniform which is a RAF uniform) until he returned to the States because he was drafted. The file was loaded with postcards and pictures of him in Ireland as well as newspaper clippings. I sure do miss the old man but it was a nice surprise to find this and have a chance to appreciate, again, my father ( even though it's Mothers Day I feel like she would approve).

There was a time when I missed my dad in a way that made me terribly sad. Now days, I still miss him, maybe even more than ever, but in a way that makes me smile when I think about him.

Dad was 27 when the war broke out. He wasn't drafted, but all his brothers were. So, he went down and enlisted. He tested high enough that he was kept at an Army Air Corps base in South Dakota, training navigators for night time bombing missions. They were truly the "greatest generation".

Thanks for sharing the story of your father.

and i looked in the 40 thread. i went through several pages and all i really saw them talking about was super exspensive sports cars that i can't relate to other than rob/ moose who had valid comments about the fire tragedy in canada. i'm staying here i ike you guys and ladies and if we don't want to go to some other age group we'll just start our own thread
