This whole situation has gotten way out of control. Let's all take a deep breath and relax a bit.
You guys want your thread reopened. We get that. Rules were broken and there are consequences. The sooner you accept that the better off everyone will be. A few things can happen to help your cause namely:
1 stop complaining. you guys were warned for your antics once and yet jumped right back into doing the same crap again - all within the same week. you all could have heeded the warning and everything would have been fine, no bans were issued after the first instance. take responsibility for your actions
2 stop picking fights with the staff. we aren't here bully people. we aren't singling anyone out. we are here to enforce the rules plain and simple
3 those that have been banned need to stop making duplicate accounts. you know who you are.
4 stop congregating in other people's BS threads. you guys ruined your own BS thread, don't ruin everyone else's.

Wow, for a meet up thread there is a lot of BS in here. Arguing with the mods is like arguing with a police office, there is no point to it. You will not win, no matter who is right.

I think the mods do need to stop lowering themselves to the fight, at least not in public. It's like watching a bad body came of a good cop.

However debate is an important milestone of this country and freedom, and not a violation of the CoCs. We have to be able to express our disappointment in how this was handled without repercussions. Punishment of all by locking a thread is not fair. Banning those that have violated the CoCs is. So as long as the unfair punishment is being handed down, the peasants will raise their pitch forks.

One reason for locking the thread was that for every one member posting inappropriate material there were several others egging them on, encouraging them to keep posting and keep pushing the limits. The cycle will repeat itself if the thread is reopened. Show us that you guys can follow the CoC, accept responsibility for what has happened and move on. MAYBE if you can all behave yourselves and convince us that you've learned your lesson we'll open the thread again.

Once again, you are the ones stirring the pot and making broad accusations, somethings not acceptable in polite society. If people have violated the CoCs, deal with them and leave everyone else alone. If you don't have enough on someone to punish them then leave them alone. Punishing people because you don't like their behavior, but they didn't technically do anything wrong, is just being a bully. That is why we are unhappy, punishing the innocent.

In a professional situation, HR would be having a hay day with any manager that acted in this regard. There is a semi-clear structure for dealing with rule breakers here, only semi because you guys do need room to deal with the unexpected of the Internet. As we see it, some one has a first offense, the post is deleted and they get a warning, do it again and they get a few days off, repeat offenders get additional time or the full boot, all based on the infraction. Of course some major infractions require the full force the first time. However, you are punishing those that did nothing wrong, when we tried to start a fresh, it was locked without any infractions to the CoC. This is commonly referred to "flexing your muscles". This is what as aggravated the masses, operating outside of reasonable response.
