I read somewhere that the average Tacoma owner spends $10K on accessories after purchase. I thought that was absurd.

New tires, got slider/steps on the way, topper soon..... I'm thinking about dual batteries, OBA, lockers, bumpers, winch, lights, lift.... might even install a drawer system. Bad Tacomaworld!!!!!

Edit: mobile unit is definitely happening.

Well, I'd say 10k is kind of low, I'll bet it gets to 20 or 30. Think lockers, armor axles etc.. Personally I think it's a good idea to consider the facts.. every aftermarket item I purchased for my Jeep deteriorated quickly. On the whole, aftermarket items aren't rust proofed/galvanized/anodized at all. they look good day 1 and look bad quickly. If you off road regularly you'll require a great deal of regular maintenance, for me every outing required roughly $1k in maintenance, that's if I didn't break anything. Your mileage will go south quicky, not only the added weight but the shaking and bent ball joints will drag it down. Not to mention 80mph will be something you dream about or will rattle your drawers off every time you try, think 1 hour tops before a pee break. And lastly, I'll bet all but the most die hards that live right beside the trail average less than 10% of their miles on the trail, I'll add that 90% of the trails could be handled with most 2wd and a heavy foot.

My thinking is keep your brand new rig stock, buy a quad for the trails and enjoy your new truck.. Or not.. lol

    Peace..

I never wheel and didn't see the need for them. But I am thinking of a full overhaul soon

I was real close to going with some aluminum wheels.... but I decided to be practical. I like the look, but might find some alloys to negate the MPG hit. I'll need to do some research.

I off road avidly (every weekend at a minimum) and i'd agree 90% of my miles are still highway. However, wheeling a full size is a different beast and requires a lot of thought and mechanical skills. I'd rather build my own truck than have KTM or Yamaha say "give me $5k and go have fun, maintenance on occasion". Full size off roading is a completely different beast. For 4wheeling, its all about knowing your vehicle, trusting a spotter and slowly working out the best way. Long Travel trucks, which are another beast, require aboslutely maximizing your space and strength for high speed suitability.

Saying 90% of trails can be done in 2WD and a heavy foot is probably why you drop $1k a trip in maintenance.. and if you bring a 2WD to the parks here in Texas (Hidden Falls, Barnwell Mtn, K2, ect), you're in for a winch fest and a horrible trip.

Either way, OP, yes, we are terrible influences. However, we know how to have fun :bananadance:

Well, I use a CPAP. When we went to Big Bend last year, I borrowed a deep cycle battery and an inverter. Dual battery system would allow me to bring my own power.
