well that's kinda ridiculous.. I have little faith that mine will make it out than.. and even more understanding of why they waive the shipping cost..

Well it was our honest attempt to send the security bit out to the people that did not get one. The product is shipped in a padded envelope and does not go through a machine. We were not including a security bit in the first few orders. When we were able to secure a source we included the bit.

It's tricky, but if you follow the below instructions, it does take off the shipping cost:

I received mine. Tried to put it on, but I think there is extra paint where the barrel is on my tailgate. The o rings are a real pain. It looks like the rings will tear if I put pressure on it. I will attempt to try it tomorrow. I'm going to try the electrical tape idea with it and see if it works.

I finished installing mine yesterday. The tolerance for the diameter of the hole is too tight. I had to take off the rubber ring in order to make it fit over the hinge of my tailgate.

I'll vouch for the plastic rings....they are a PITA! Partially because I was trying to steady the tailgate with one hand and install the lock with the other. Adding lube made a big difference! I used some gun lube and didn't have an issue after that. Probably a benefit down the road too, as the mechanism rotates more freely on the flange. Apart from the rings, the lock fit well and the color (silver) matched well. Should provide a decent level of security and peace of mind. It was a good purchase for me!

I must be a special kind of stupid because I could not figure out how this thing goes on there. I did the same thing, tried to slide the rings all the way left but then I couldn't set the tail gate back down. Hmmmmm

Well. I did attempt to get it on today. Used lube and took off the tailgate. My tailgate barrel has a little paint on it which makes the lock not slide on properly, which in turn, could not get my tailgate back on. I will again try to do it in the next couple of days and see what happens. I followed the directions and also took my tailgate off to really see what's going on. I'll keep you posted.

The rings need to be offset from one another so they can be compressed together and placed all the way to the left. I put mine on one at a time, incidentally. The tailgate should then just drop in place, at least mine did on my 2014. Once the tailgate has been reinstalled, move the rings apart from each other and line them up to install the bolt. I put the bolt head to the inside on mine so that it would be less visible to a would-be thief.

Hope this helps. The pics/description on the web site are a little bit open to interpretation. The forthcoming video will be real helpful.
