These exercises did wonders for my back pain.

I think the seat is fine, definitely more comfortable than the competition.

I do similar exercises like that and they do help, although when I drive my Camry there is no problem or pain at all--Thanks

Solution would have been figuring that out before you bought the truck.

I have a bad back as well (double discectomy, double semi-laminectomy) and actually find the seats comfortable. But then again, I actually gave myself some time when checking out the truck to see if they were comfortable or not before I signed on the dotted line. Only wish I knew the transmission was gonna suck ass, but those problems didn't start rearing their ugly head until over 4k miles.

I have a Camry too. I agree the seating position is more comfortable. Sorry to hear you find the Tacoma unagreeable. There may not be much you can do beyond trying one of those strap on lumbar support pads.

This just goes to show that it varies from person to person obviously. I had a Camry as a loaner for a few days while my new Tacoma was back at the dealership and though the seats were incredibly uncomfortable, but have no problem with the Tacoma seats.

It bothers my lower back on longer trips (2+ to 3+ hours) and I'm in excellent shape. I exercise 5+ days a week with a combo of resistance and high intensity training. If anything my back would be sore from deadlifts, snatch, front squats etc. but I actually find the truck is what irritates it on longer road trips.

Wow! Such a broad statement in the title and such a narrow reason in fact. Some people..

What you can and should do - go to your doctor and ask for what exactly you need for your back. Perhaps it is a lumbar support, perhaps it is a soft seat or maybe it is a surgery. Knowing that answer you can start looking for the ways to make it happen.

Otherwise whatever you do, you might be hurting yourself more in a process.

    Cheers.

+1 on this. Everyone is different so anything we all say is just going to be what worked for us. It might work for you, but then again it probably won't. I found that turning the lumbar support all the way down was the most comfortable for me- and I doubt that will work for you.

That said, this is a big one that a lot of people forget/ don't even think about:

Do you keep your wallet in your back pocket?
This one is actually a real ballbuster for a lot of people and they don't even realize. Sitting on that without moving for extended periods of time can make serious strain / back pain happen. It might hurt in your leg, it might hurt in your lower back, it might hurt in both! I try to remember to toss my wallet in the cupholder or center console if I'm going to be driving for more than an hour.

Yea, I don't have a problem with the Tacoma seats either. I've done 9.5+ hour trips in it no problem. I just prefer the seating position of my Camry. The Camry is a 2009 SE, so I can't really comment on newer models. But I did have a 2016 Corolla loaner once and that thing was uncomfortable to me. The seating position felt scrunched up and the seats were hard without decent lumbar support. I would not buy a Corolla. Just doesn't fit me.

agree...experiment with small pillow/cushion behind lower back until you find something that works. i had to use a small pillow behind my back in my 2008 tacoma but my 2016 seems O.K.

I find the seats to be comfortable. I think you may need to talk to a doctor and maybe someone familiar with ergonomics. Might be something in the way you have it set up..... or it might be something wrong for you and some type of support pillow may be required.

You the internet police now? Maybe an opinion saying "hey the seats in previous gens were comfortable too and it's most likely your back" would help this guy go see the doctor or seek a solution, and not relegate himself to thinking "must just be 3rd gen seats"

Buuuuut I'm just some random dude...now I see why the 3rd gen community is getting such a bad rap

I was looking for a little more back support and noticed the wheel on the side of my seat. Didn't have that on my 2011. Gave it a twist or two and found I now have lumbar support!
