I used to have my own home gym, but I can't get in to it at home. Too much distraction

I'd like to do something like that in my retirement I think. I loved working at the gym all through college. My top retirement plans are:

    1. open up a bar at my local golf course
    2. appointed to a judgeship
    3. gym owner

Gym sloots add to the focus for me. I think my 1rm shoots up 5 lbs for every pair of yoga pants in my vicinity

Those are the good kind of distractions... At home I feel lazy and my couch is like 50 feet away. I have to get out of the house to feel motivated.

I would love to have a gym in my house. I hate having to wait for racks to clear out, and there is so much douchebaggery and pussyfooting at my gym it drives me crazy. This one group of men and women is in there every day, standing around the machines chatting. Every now and then someone will sit down and do a light set - I don't think I have ever seen one of them sweat. Recently, I over heard them complaining about how they haven't been "making gains." It took everything in me not to pipe in and go off on them.

That's how my workout partner is. He talks to anyone and everyone. I keep my headphones in and have to ignore him. I used to wait for him to do his set but I've gotten to where I just jump back on and go. He will get 3-4 sets behind me real quick now and then I finish up and he just quits wherever he is instead of finishing. He questions why he hasn't gotten as much gain out of stuff as I get. He also has 0 motivation if I am not there. I was out of town Friday and he called me and said he got to the gym parking lot but didn't feel like going in so he went and got donuts instead. He's 10+ years older than me so I don't give him much advice, he wouldn't listen if I did anyway. That's why I had my 'less talky more lifty' tank on today @dwalden2 . I try to hit him with subliminal messaging.

Athankyou. I take great pride in my work

That's what I love about my gym. We have 4 main areas: machines, cardio equipment, the fitness room for classes, and the free weight area. The free weight area is where all the lifters hang out and most of them are there to get shit done. Of course, we all bullshit around in between sets, but when my 1 or 1.5 mins are up in between sets, I get back at it. The old folks and casual lifters don't really come back there, so the only folks who get in the way are newbies or people who don't really know what they're doing (there's quite a few of the latter, but if you force them to abide by the rules, they generally will). The main problems I encounter are people taking up too much space doing something and people not re-racking their weights. If someone does curls in the squat rack, I'll go move the bar (as long as they don't look like The Rock)

I don't totally ignore other gym goers. I will give a fist bump or a nod or a "what's up bro?!" haha. I like to have fun when I lift but I am there to accomplish a purpose, and it's not to catch up on the goddamn Kardashians!

#7 is my new favorite gif...of all time. That much floppage has got to hurt. That woman needs more support. I am not gonna tell her that though...

Also, I saw someone bitching at the mods in the other thread because they had a picture taken down. Their complaint was that there are worse or more suggestive pictures/gifs posted in the gym thread that didn't get taken down.

Yes. Newbie gains are typically 5 pounds a week in dead lift, and that drops off after about 6 months (in my experience and conferring with others - as always, YMMV). Unless you are lying to yourself about your true PR, or have never pulled to your full potential, I would think that's extremely unrealistic.

Let me know if you make it up to the big city of Blue Ridge. I think I'm off this weekend.

I did 4. And apparently one of them got it on video expecting me to fail.

Gotta show the alpha dominance. It's in the Geneva convention.

We only have 45s, and we probably only have 20ish of them. So when the stronger guys are in there or when someone is using the leg press, it's hard to find them. I make sure I have 6 at whatever station I'm at and if someone comes to get them I tell them to fuck off.

I bought that one back when I got my suns out guns out tank. I've found some new ones I want...

Even 5lbs a week would only be 260lb in a year, which is extremely unrealistic IMO. If you really want to bump up you 1RM, you should concentrate on you 7RM for a while and once you plateau at that work on you 3RM. Your 1RM will go up faster if you can rep out heavier weight over being able to climb a 1rep pyramid a little bit more at a time. Like I said earlier, I hit 90% of my max (on bench) x3 today. I will keep working that until that 3rd rep isn't as much of a struggle, or until I can hit 95% x3. Even then, I don't expect my 1RM to go up by more than 10-15lbs

Last final tonight. Can't wait to get back to a little bit of free time - and lifting at "normal hours."
