Power Outlet Question

Can i add the Power Outlet to my SR5 that did not come with one? I found the assembly (not sure if it is the right part number) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toyota-Taco...Box-Power-Outlet-Genuine-OEM-OE-/271442969703

But wondering if the connector is back there?

 

I'm thinking you would also have to add the inverter. Not sure if they install an inverter on trucks without outlet, but I've heard it's located under the center console. Haven't looked myself.

awww sorry to hear that. im looking at the same thing but i hear alot guys say its not worth it. better off with a small generator or using the cig lighter outlets or another surce of power.

yeah i havent found anyone that has actually done it. i think its more hassle than necessary

 

I'm pretty sure you can, but why go thru all that trouble and expense when you can just DIY & add one of these??

stock one is too small for anything useful. better off to use one of the many aftermarket options

 

I imagine if you want to add an aftermarket inverter to your SR5 you could use the TRDOR outlet above. You wouldn't need the factory wiring harness. It's AC, there's only three wires therefore you could run an AC extension cord to it and possibly solder the wire to it or crimp spade connectors.

There were a lot of gen2'rs that wanted to add the TRDOR inverter under the center console hoping to use existing wiring/switches as well as the bed outlet but I don't think any of them found a feasible way to do it. $240 for the factory bed outlet - you can buy a weatherproof AC outlet for $15 at Lowes.

I think every one of the Gen2 guys ended up using an aftermarket inverter mounted under the driver seat connected directly to the battery, and ran a regular AC extension cord from the 3-prong AC on the inverter to wherever they pleased.

You can buy a 600W pure sine wave inverter for $250. 600W IMO is the max feasible for the stock 130A alternator and a deep cycle 27F battery. Pure sine wave because some electronics you use need it.

Buy 4AWG wire, attach it directly to the battery positive, run it to a circuit breaker like this

Pierce the grommet, attach the positive to the inverter under the driver seat. Ground the DC negative from the inverter to the driver seat frame mount. Slather antioxidant on all your connections.

Run a good AC extension cord from the inverter back through the grommet (of course you have to cut the female head off the extension cord) then along the frame through wire loom to a hole you drill in the bed, silicone caulk the breached grommet. Thread the extension cord into the bed, solder the leads to your weatherproof AC outlet, mount the AC outlet.

This is the dirt simple method, it works, professionalize as you please. I've done this on my '98, '12, and Tundra.

Take the time to do the mod and use a pure sine wave inverter. Most devices work more efficiently with a pure sine wave, and some won't work unless pure sine wave. Also, a modified sine wave inverter will introduce harmonics into audio systems that manifests itself as whines, buzzes, even obliteration of some radio frequencies.
