Anyone have any updates to add to the thread? I'm still experiencing this and haven't got around to putting some weight in the bed to see if it helps (aka driveline-angle related).

My dealership acknowledged the vibration, but said there aren't any TSB/known-fix so for now I'll have to wait on a solution. Thanks, Toyota!

Apparently the front driver side CV axle on the 2nd gens could have play from the needle bearing/axle carrier design being flawed. There is a TSB from Toyota addressing this issue, for the 2nd gen, and it seems that 3rd gens may have a similar problem ... There is a huge thread on the 2nd gen subforum discussing this, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...differential-bearing-vibration-thread.152173/ ... So today I was under my truck greasing the U joints and decided to check the CV axle. Sure enough there is a decent amount of play in it. The passenger side was good though. I'm going to take it into the dealer again and have them look at it, so they can tell me it's normal and that's just how Toyota designs stuff.

Then, like every 2nd gen owner with this problem who decides they want it fixed, I'll go ahead and get the ECGS bushing to replace the needle bearing and remove the play from the CV axle.

WTF Toyota. Fix your shit. If I was one of the drivetrain engineers at Toyota I would be ashamed of this nonsense.

I just went out and checked mine. Drivers side was tight, passengers was loose exactly like your video. I have not heard and noise from the needle bearing, but should I be worried?

Do you have a vibration around 15-30mph, specifically when slowing down? That's what we're trying to figure out here, and I guess it could be from these floppy CV axles. I really won't know until it's fixed ...

Not that I can tell. The only problem I have is when coming to a stop(15-0MPH) sometime it feels like the tranny clunks when it drops into lower gear.

I'd be interested to see if this solves the vibration. Mines from 25-15, slowing or increasing speeds, even holding stead. However, it does not go away in 4X4. I've been running my 4X more and more to get some miles on it and it seems like it's better, but that could just be in my head :)

Sounds like age old axle wrap, but if your rear diff is indeed howling (like a pinion bearing taking a shit) then I'd immediately check diff fluid..Yours wouldn't be the first to be delivered without ANY diff fluid

I only notice the shudder when I slow down abruptly...st least iit feels more pronounced then.

been away for awhile...so I brought the truck in again last week...Service mgr told me they tried disconnecting the drive shaft for the 4x4 but it did not fix anything...he also said they took some diadnostic snapshots and will get back to me IF they come up with a fix... I even told him about the tie wrap fix some have done...but I have no interest in crawling under a new vehicle that cost me over 40k! *&^%!
I guess I will have to call corporate again at some point.
I'm really frustrated with this issue...I mean I absolutely love my new truck, but I want this fixed! I wish I had bought the manual trans...sigh

Sub'd. I have about 1800 miles on mine, and I notice a very slight thud when slowing sometimes. Its not every time, but usually when I slow from 35ish down to stop.

This problem is more of a vibration similar to running over the rumble strips on the side of the road, and happens around 20mph. I don't think anyone is reporting a thud sound associated with this, but I remember reading about the AT slamming/clunking into gear when coming to a stop. That may be what you're experiencing?

Yea, more like its shifting into first pretty hard when coming to a stop. Don't have any rumble strip action thankfully I guess.

Sounds similar to the issue @mesojdm is having. Did some searching and a few other members think this could be "normal", and 4x4 is prone to doing it worse then a 4x2.

I bought my '16 DCSB TRD OR from Toyota of Kirkland here in Washington. They already took care of the ATF fluid (came .75l low). That was taken care of at 400 miles, I am now at 1200 miles.

Brought it it last week for a shudder while braking and told them to check u joint grease and u bolt torque. My shudder also felt like minor rumble strip action. I also opened a case with Toyota Corporate while I was there since they wanted to charge for the u joint grease. They kept it overnight to check on things and gave me a Prius V loaner (HORRIBLE). I picked it up the next day and the shudder was gone and confirmed u bolts torqued to spec and u joints greased.

No more issues so I'm happy on my side. I'd highly recommend Toyota of Kirkland since they haven't charged me anything for this work and have been more than willing to check the truck for these issues. Only thing I've paid for was a flat repair, which was expected!

As far as follow up - they noted the vibration issue on my Toyota Corporate record. They said there is no official bulletin for any of this stuff yet, but will continue to track.

Did they say how they fixed the shudder?

@Contra472 , I believe it was the U bolts. After greasing the U joints and torquing the U bolts to spec, they went for a test drive and the shudder was gone.

But I'm not sure I am feeling the same issue as some of the other folks in this thread, no clunking or anything like that.

Hoping I don't run into any more strange vibration issues - I'm overall very happy with this truck! Still on the fence whether I should have bought manual or AT (I previously had a 2014 AC Manual), but that's my own issue :).

Greased the u joints myself this morning. Torqued the U bolts last night. My vibration has always been subtle. Hard to tell if it's been lessened. Called corporate and got a case number anyway. First Toyota I've ever owned. Also first new vehicle that wasn't good to go out the gate. Hopefully everything evens out.

Same on both counts. The major reason I went brand new with this one was because it was from Toyota. My previous used, high mileage vehicles had less issues their entire lifespan than this Toyota has had out of the gate.
