How do you run out of torque? Well, it's the one reason why no truck can go infinite miles per hour up a hill. Eventually you run into a wall. That is why you must downshift.

Or just increase your boost until you dont have to downshift :anonymous:

I wonder how this engine will take to a supercharger.

Could go either way. It already high revs to build power...so that would be interesting

There are a ton of spots on that hill coming back up the 8 from Ocotillo that I have to drop my 2015 into 4th gear for long stretches as well. I can get up the Cajon Pass just fine in 5th gear so long as I'm going at least 70. 75 in 6th up that hill though? No wonder you thought it was in limp mode. You should have downshifted more often and kicked it in the ass a little more as these trucks can definitely scoot up hills if you put 'em in the correct gear.

Agreed, you either have to hit the hill with enough momentum to maintain higher RPM'S with little effort or switch gears. If you start to let the RPM's drop in 6th on a hill you can hit the gas pedal all you want but it won't do any good for you. Perfectly normal.

I just got confirmation that my truck will be built on June 6...should be at the dealer in 10 business days.

I opted for the standard 2016 MGM DCSB OR MT 4x4 with tow package. I could have gotten the premium package but I wanted to limit the cost of the new truck.

This car purchase has been 10 times more difficult than my previous experiences, mainly because of my bad experience with test driving the AT. I almost went with a 4R because it drove so much like my 07 taco but I knew I want a truck with a bed. Hopefully I get no sticky 6th gear issue, but if I do then I'll come to you guys for advise.

^ I'll take a sticky 6th gear over a gutless, EPA dick sucking automatic transmission any day of the week. Man, I really do feel bad for all those poor AT bastards. The 2016 actually sounds like a really nice truck as long as you get one that doesn't shift itself.

I agree with you on wanting MT for more control.

I hope the tranny software fix works out for the AT guys

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
Grinding in 5th. At times wouldn't go into gear at all, this is 4-5 or 6-5 as it started when i was towing. That was over 8k miles ago, and was the only problem until recently. I didn't use 5th at all for the last 8k, because it grinds or chirps any time i go for 5th.

I did need fifth about a month ago, and ran its for a solid 100 miles or so on the highway.

Come about 2 weeks ago i was driving home from picking up my kids and it started rejecting other gears. Now it is a bitch to get into 1st, 3rd 5th and 2nd. Reverse has to be forced or it will reject or grind, half the time i start the truck in reverse to avoid that.

The clutch qould not hold power starting after the supercharger.. when i took it apart there was nothing wrong with it, and it wasn't worn out. I got the URD stage 3 as well, its been good. It holds and locks up nice, but its got a chatter when I tow.

Clutch pedal creaking.. annoying as hell. Pedal feel sucked ass, so i pulled the CLUTCH FLYID ACCUMULATOR aka clutch delay valve, pedal feel improved but still not great.

Overall it just drives me nuts that the whole clutch system sucks the big one.

Its making a noise too. Like tb noise, started about a week ago.. I suspect its somethingin the transmission but i have not had time to investigate. To many priorities that are not chasing down stupid problems I shouldn't be having.

    Or have a giant grill.

    Or a weaker engine.

Damn the interior is nice though!

True, but I was trying to be diplomatic. I can't stand that grill either and I definitely prefer the idea of my 4.0 over the 3.5. Heading to Vegas soon riding shotgun in my buddy's brand new 2016 Off Road MT, so I'm hoping to get some real world experience on the differences between the two trucks but for the time being can only comment on other peoples' experience and my own perception.

Did you replace the throw out bearing and/or the flywheel when you replaced the clutch?

Only had issues grinding in third, the rest of the gears go right in, but every so often it rejects in third or grinds if I try to slam it in and aren't perfect. Haven't heard much chattering, but haven't towed either.

I'll be honest, I love the Third gens bed. The cab is the same on the exterior and I've heard issues with people over 6 feet. I put leather in mine and will be upgrading the sound system, soon so I'm not super worried about anything else lol. But I love the bed lines and the tailgate. Cab forward? Just threw up in my mouth thinking about it again.

I will. I'm hoping I can sneak in a hundred miles of driving or so because I'm such a good friend and I don't want him to get all tired and fatigued driving the whole way and all...

I'm pretty tempted to test drive a 2016 the next time I'm at the dealer for anything. Not that I'd trade in for anything (Unless they ever make a v8 lol), but just curious how the power band feels comparatively. I drove unboosted in my 2011 for the better part of 5 years before I picked up my 2015 and boosted it a week later lol. So I've seen the best of both worlds and curious how the 2016 stands up to it. Hmmmmm now I'm trying to think of a good reason to go...

Keep your boosted 2015. What the 2016 got going for it is the nice interior, a bit quieter, and updated headlights and tail lights. Stock OR/Sport tires and wheels are ok. Front rotors are smaller (10in vs 12in). Before I forget, the 7th gear is awesome but I can't find it. I always hit a wall going from 6th to 7th gear. I end up riding in 6th gear the majority of the time though.

They're putting a 7th gear in these trucks now? I bet it'd make a lot of owners happy if you let us know where it is when you get around to finding it.

Yeah definitely not selling my 2015 ever lol. It's getting LT installed as we speak, Once regeared I'll be putting down at least 300 to the wheels lol. If URD ever gets around to releasing the UCON (Maybe 2020 or so?) for the 2012+ Tacomas, I'll get another 50 hp or so
