Solid Axle Swap. Just in case you wanted to take this truck from a part-time weekend job to a career.

 

Why am I disturbing it you might ask?

Making room for a long term for the 4Runner. Going to address the issues it has a bit at a time.
The goal at this point is to get it solid for next winter. I'd like to store our new Juke and use the 4Runner.

Solid front axle, basically gut the front suspension and toss it. Slide under a sexy solid axle and hang some leaf springs.

 

It is a much more rudimentary set up, easier to work on, and no coil overs.
Manual lock out hubs...

There are some benefits.

 

Yesterday Tacomaworld was uncooperative with me uploading pictures via my iPhone while I was actually doing the work.
Here are the progress pictures of the shop. I still have some more organizing to do but for now we have somewhere to work while I finish up.

I am staggeringly jealous of your shop space. When I work on my truck it is in the half of my two-car garage that isn't taken up by my workbenches. I feel like I'm building a ship in a bottle.

It feels so good to go do something in the shop once it's cleaned or reorganized!

 

Dude, I literally laughed out loud.
I do have it very good atm with workspace.

 

Today I picked up a rotor to replace my drivers side rotor that is warped.
I have to make do with the calliper thats in there now, I say make due because one piston does not retract.
I pulled it a put it in the vice and it moved back along with the others.
Hopefully it'll get me by until I have the dough to get another calliper.

 

I think you need to call the previous owner and ask for half of your money back. SHEESH.

 

I've replaced the muffler on the Tacoma. It's so quiet driving now, all I hear is the engine.

After reading through all 29 pages I now have the desire to restore a 1st gen. Nice job

oh, I know. haha I've experienced your pain before on a 1980 toyota pickup. Its an awesome and gratifying thing to do but a huge PAIN.

 

I'm not proud of it, but it's what I had to work with.
Yes I chopped the muffler off the 4Runner.
