Then there is a good reason to get a 5.56 non-Colt lower and get a dedicated .22lr upper from another manufacturer. Wouldn't be that much more $.

Well I went and checked out the Colt today.

Within 10 seconds I could tell it was cheap, at least in feel. Overall it felt like a airsoft rifle that somebody removed the orange tip, then filled with 4 pounds of lead weights. I was expecting the buttstock to have slop in it but not the rest of the stock as well.

If I get one of these types of rifles, I think I would get a non folding/adjusting stock style. I'm going to see if I can find somebody that has a GSG-5 somepleace to look at.

My old school Ruger is looking better all the time LOL.

It sounds like you are looking for the new Ruger SR-22. Look it up, its the 10/22 dressed up like the AR. I just got one and couldn't be happier. It is very solid, not cheap feeling, uses trusted 10/22 action, modifiable with unlimited 10/22 accessories, and has a bunch of dedicated SR-22 accessories. I plan on putting on a NCstar 3-9 x42 rubber coated tactical scope with laser, and bipod. Throw on a 25 round clip and go to town.

    price is $450-$500.

You can also build this yourself. Just go to your local gunshop and pick up a used 10/22 action. Throw it in a Nordic kit add a barrel, grip, stock and magazine and your good to go. You can add whatever optics you want. Makes a great project gun and you can custom tailor it to your liking.

Here's a build up of it:

There was a Big 5 that had the remington AR version (pic below) listed for $500. It was pretty damn heavy (for a 22) and felt solid. Everything but the buttstock and pistol grip were all metal, even the forearm grip was all metal.

Then I watched a 6 part vid on You Tube about the Remington and how every brand of ammo they tried jammed, double stacked or failed to eject. Most times it jammed after the first or second shot. Most they ever got off was 3 or 4 shots without a jam. I don't think they tried CCI which from what I hear seems to be the best 22LR and the least likely to jam in semi autos.

I'm really interested in the GSG-5 but it seems to be a mail order type gun. The other would be the sig.

On the other hand I have 12 or 13 guns now, half of those are german air guns. so think i will just "try" to find some freakin' ammo for what I have now. Went to two different places looking for 38, 44MAG and 22LR ammo and both were out of all of everything i needed.

GSG-5 is no more since ATI lost in the lawsuit HK filed against them. However, HK did license their MP5 look to Umarex which is supposed to be coming out with several mp5 type .22s. No idea on quality as Umarex mostly makes airsoft guns.

That is what the SR-22 is. 10/22 in a nordic receiver. Ruger had them make the receiver for them. Anyhow the SR-22 is the whole works at less cost if you made one yourself. Also the SR-22 has a hammer forged barrel.

    10/22 - $150
    Nordic Receiver - $200
    Barrel - $180
    Top rail - $25
    Butt stock - $50
    Barrel Shroud - $50
Target trigger assembly - who knows
    Hogue grip $40
    Flash suppressor - $30

We are over $700, just get the SR-22

If you do it right and shop around you will spend the same and have a project gun to work on. Whenever possible I like to build my own guns. Maybe I'm weird or have too much time on my hands but that's what I prefer.

You'll notice I said 10/22 action not rifle. You can pick up a used 10/22 receiver including trigger assembly for $50. Also the top rail is integrated into the Nordic receiver. You're other prices are pretty much right though. I didn't add a suppressor b/c they're illegal is this back-asswards state.

I was totally going to go your route until I discovered that Ruger just put this out. The crappy part though of putting my own together was finding the action of a 10/22. I looked all over, but eventually just bought the whole thing. Too many people looking for the actions to do just what I wanted to do.

You can't even put on a flash suppressor(more or less a decoration), in your state? Or did you think I meant a silencer?

You're right that just a bare receiver can be hard to find although not impossible if you're patient. If you just want to get a complete gun and get out to shoot and live in a free state the SR-22 is a damn good package. Because I live in MA I can't buy an SR 22 as it is shipped by Ruger. MA still has the asinine AWB that they continued after the federal one expired in 2004. This means that anything that has a pistol grip and detachable magazine cannot have a collapsible stock or flash suppressor. If it does it is considered an assault weapon (yes even in .22) and is illegal. I can't wait to move

I thought about modding my Ruger but I want to keep it old school and unmolested lol.

I bought a Sig 522 today and can't wait to shoot it. Will be a long 10 days. I damn near bought a GSG-5 when I was there too but I do not need three rifles for sure.

Nice, I've been looking at getting a .22LR for a little while now, I have been thinking about the Sig 522, and the S&W M&P 15-22. Does anybody have any other suggestions? I'm wanting something I can just plink around on?

My family has several AR-15s yet my step-dad doesn't want a .22 Conversion kit for one of his, so I guess I'll just get my a dedicated .22 and when I want the 5.56, or .223 Remington I'l just shoot my step-dad's rifles! haha
