    K. So I have no experience offroading at all. I have a 2wd prerunner tacoma. Where would be a good place to start off? I live in socal.

    I don't know about cali but pretty much some 1-2 star forest service roads should be fine for your truck. Be real cautious with a prerunner and no locker though, and DO NOT wheel alone! bring recovery gear, water, phone, ect....

    ...I'm hearing a lot of things about cleghorn, but I'm not sure if that'd be a good starting place.

    ^ THIS! Bring tools, straps, jacks, water, food, flashlights, blankets, jumper cables, water, phone, GPS, water, CB, a shovel, ratchet straps, and water.

    If you have stuff with you and get stuck, people will be more willing to help you. If you get stuck without assistance, you'll need to stay healthy, hydrated, and alert. ALWAYS wheel with a buddy.

    If you're going in soft sand, air down your tires to 18psi or less, and make sure you air back up once you're back on the pavement for the drive home.

    Start easy. Tool around on trails. Explore, but keep your bearings. Especially early on, if you're unsure of an obstacle, go around it or turn around.

    Your skills and knowledge will increase with each trip. Start easy and enjoy! :)

    Where is not too much of an issue- WHAT and WITH WHO matters more. Find some local groups to roll with.
    Check out the OR threads section here for a basic kit of stuff to bring/ have to be well prepared.

    Understand that you truck is limited in capability...and you are a new OR driver- so it's even more limited. Don't push it into spots where you feel you could get stuck or damage your truck. It'll make your day shitty and can lead to more mishaps.

    Good luck finding some folks to show you the trails.

    yep, cleghorn is fine for 2WD. I probly wouldnt go there my 1st time.
    try Gorman, its open in most spots and there are trails that have signs with ratings
    I'm hoping we do a gorman meet up next time :)

    Find an OHV park and walk the trail before deciding to try it.
    Don't be ashamed to try playing passenger - watching an experienced driver at the wheel can help a little with what the ride will feel like and how to maneuver. Pay attention when they use their different traction controls, when they shift (yes, autos too), and how they turn (even how you hold the steering wheel is important - broken thumbs are bad).
    Take it slow. My best coaches have never pushed me, and always made sure I knew "when in doubt, stop and get a spot. Better to ask first."
